Wink Juans Auto--Fabulous Mercedes Service in Richmond

I had my 2000 Mercedes E430 serviced at Juan's European Auto Repair in Richmond yesterday. He did a fabulous job and saved me $2,750 compared to the quote I received from the Mercedes Benz dealer on Boundary Road in Vancouver.

I have been taking my car in for service at Mercedes in Burnaby for 7 years. Not anymore. In Dec 2012 I took my car into Mercedes for an oil change and because my left rear brake was smoking. $450 later Mercedes told me my brakes seemed fine. ( expensive oil change.) Two weeks later, my left rear brake was smoking!! I took it back to Mercedes and $300 later they told me I needed new rear brakkes including new rear calipers. They gave me a quote of $2,000. I also had a banging noise coming from the front suspension. After a $200 alignment, Mercedes said they couldn't pinpoint the source of the noise, so if I really wanted the noise to go away, the only solution would be to replace the entire front suspension on both sides at an estimated cost of $2,000!!! This didn't seen right to me considering that the left front suspension was fine and the car only has 156,000 kilometers. So after paying Mercedes $950 for an oil change, an alignment and a brake inspection, I drove away with a banging front suspension and bad rear brakes! What a joke!!

Enter Juan, at Juan's Auto Service in Richmond. I took my car into Juan, he put it on a hoist, and showed me what was wrong with my suspension. He asked me to put my fingers on the front swaybar and it was easy to feel the play and knocking of the bar. Case solved. ( Why Mercedes Benz couldn't figure this out is beyond me). Because I had overheated the rear brakes, I asked Juan to install brand new rear calipers, discs and pads plus fix the front suspension. Total cost for everything was $1,253 v.s. the $4,000 that Mercedes Benz in Burnaby wanted. Juan did the entire job while I waited and was proud to show me the Porsches in his shop as well. (Take your 911 to Juan's as well.)I highly recommend Juan's Auto Service in Richmond for excellent work at great prices!

Are you suppose to have a W210 owners' Get-Together meet someday here in Vancouver? We have lots W210s in here, especially in Richmond.

It depends how they align it. Small workshop use their eye and experience to do the work.

Dealership usually equipped with computerized light-controlled equipment to do it, it's very precise, but you know the equipment is pricing, so 350$ probably worth it.

Or, do it when you are in the states, states are much cheaper.

I'm pretty sure Broadway Benz does alignments for $199. That's what I saw on their poster this week while in their shop.

Norwescan, did a PPI there... they missed so many things on the PPI, I regret going there. I think they're moving to New Westminister soon. Their current location in Burnaby is just silly.

I called Autobot (on Ontario st) and they seem to have good shop rates and decent experience with the ABC suspension systems. They even made some Youtube teaching videos. I'll be trying them next time when I get around to ABC repairs.

Has anybody tried Ivan (the manager) at GN Auto on 2nd Ave. in Burnaby?

They claim to be a "well equipped mechanic shop with the latest Mercedes Diagnostic tools and able to diagnose any Mercedes vehicle same as the Mercedes-Benz dealers". They provide "guaranteed computer diagnosis by highly trained technicians." Their labor rate is only $50.00/hour. Here's a link to their ad: Mercedes Vehicle Diagnosis with 2013 version program

Please let me know if they are any good as I need to have my ML320 Check Engine Light (with P0173 code) checked soon. Thank you.

I also saw their post on the craiglist today... 50$ is good. All I need is a honest workshop with license and insurance.

Anyway wanna eat a crab first>?

I think that $50/hr is only for code reading.. not actual mechanical working shop rate.. best to double check on that.

Out of all the shops I've tried (Henneken, Milo's, Benz Broadway, Benz Bellingham, Autobot's off the top of my head.. I'd still go with Henneken or Benz on broadway.. but they're both not the cheapest. At least I don't need to worry about quality of work or unexpected billings.

Example: Benz broadway was going to fix my remote unlock module on my SL and ended up spending days to figure out what wires were not transmitting.. in the end, they only billed me a few hours of labour out of reasonableness.

Whereas.. Milo wanted $800 for a tranny flush and Benz did it for $450.

Autobot's is good if you want to bring your own materials into their shop.

For tireshops.. skip Big O on Kingsway... two bad experiences with them already in two years.

Tire shop beside Henneken is great.. but they did forget to tighten my lugs after a balance.. and I ended up spending another $200 at a benz dealer trying to figure out what I thought was a busted suspension joint.

Norwescan in Burnaby is always my favorite, Victoria is the most knowledgeable Mercedes-Benz mechanic I've ever seen besides somebody worked 30 years in a MB dealership.

Google Norwescan and find out where it is the location. Book appointment since the shop is busy.
