Best to keep with a dealership for maintenance during the warranty period. Without proof of proper maintenance, you may not be eligible for a warranty repair as they could say your car was not properly maintained. For the difference in price between a dealer and an independent shop, I would not risk it. Phone the dealerships to find the cost of the A service.

Thank you all for your responses.

I will definitely go to a dealer. Do all dealers charge the same? Is there room to negotiate? Thanks

Prior to bringing my car into the shop my brakes were periodically making noise when I would brake, the check engine light was on, the srs light was on, and the lower left front light was out.

The invoice seems a little high to me ($1279), but I'm not an expert in this field so any feedback would be beneficial to me. So, I've attached my invoice to this post for you guys to determine whether or not the invoice for the work done is reasonable or not.

Juan also said that the labour charge was $115/hour and they charged for 3.3 hours, but he said that they actually worked on the car for over 4 hours. So, the labour came out to $379.50 plus gst and pst. I don't know why they charged me pst though.

Also, they charged $100 for oil.. is that a reasonable price?

Also, please note that they used after market parts.
Wow, If they are using non-OEM stuff, then they are over-charging for parts. Those prices are similar if not more than parts bought from MB dealership. Air filter, particulate filter, front rotor and oil is similarly priced at MB (and MB sells OEM stuff). But they charged you for 8 L of oil (does your car need that much?) The front pads are way too expensive for 1 set. Almost the cost of 2 sets of non-OEM. Oil filter is almost twice the price from MB.

Labour looks about 25-30% cheaper than MB. But it looks like they bundled the work or negotiated the price, as it is not broken down.

Garage
I didn't see mention, but regardless, I have dealt with Hans at Henneken auto a couple of times and found him to be a good no nonsense guy to deal with. Even after mis-diagnosing a leak, he didn't give any superiority attitude when I later on discovered the actual leak source (thankfully before an expensive repair I was booked to get) and happily ordered a hose that had to come from Germany which I replaced on my own.
the shop is very clean and full of other german guys, and there are always lots of new and older mercs and other german cars in the lot. So I think they know their stuff!

Hit By A Semi-Truck

Hi. I have a 2007 SLK 350 with about 60000 km on it. I was driving in the right lane on Knight Street Bridge when a semi-truck who was parallel with me in the left lane decided to change lanes and he collided with my car. He said he didn't see me and is taking total fault for it.

Anyway, can someone give me an estimate on how much the damage on my car is going to be? Will it be declared a total loss? I have attached pics. Thank you.

I guess no less than 10,000 CAD. And the only place to recommend is the North Vancouver MB body shop. But you probably need to wait for about a month to get your car fixed.

Ouch!

The MB Bodyshop in North Van has already been suggested, but I would also get estimates from Korva World Class Collision and Burrard Autostrasse.

There may be more damage than what you can see in the pictures and may be damage behind the obviously screwed up panels such as damage to the frame.

there's another body shop called "Open Road Autobody" near bridgeport rd in Richmond is pretty good. They have very good customer service. I mean good customer service according to their attitude towards customer.
