Question battery draining slowly

I have a 2002 CL 500 that has a parasitic load someplace in the system. With everything off the amp meter reads 0.5 amp. I've removed most fuses one by one and the current does not change. When some fuses are removed the current shoots way up to 3 to4 amps and settles own after 15 to 20 minutes back to 0.5 amp. What to do ? Help. I am not a very good mechanic but willing to listen. Thank you. Ray

I've read the battery can be drained by leaving the navigation DVD in while not using the car for extended periods. I've never had a problem, this is just what I heard. U mite wanna ck it.

I wonder if that's whats happened to my '02 CL500.
We've had a hard winter in Scotland and it didn't get driven too much, at one stage it was left for nearly two weeks as a result of too much snow. I had to jump start it using my wife's car, as the battery barely had enough to turn the starter.

Since then, it's been fine, but now it seems it's totally dead. I drove it less than 3 days ago, then when going out to it yesterday, I can't even operate the central locking. The turn signals flashed once, faintly, then quit. I used the mechanical key to get in, put the fob in the ignition to cancel the alarm, and tried to start it. Nothing.

Do you think my battery's just decided to fail, or is there something more sinister going on e.g. something left on completely draining it? I always check it and the lights weren't on, nor the COMAND.

I'm going to get a new battery and start from there, although I'm concerned that the same thing may happen. What do you think?

The problems you are experiencing seems familiar. I'm guessing your battery is fubar!

I had the same problems on my '00 CL500 not so long ago. Battery started to get worse and worse. It led up the the point where it completely drained itself over night.

I got a new battery and haven't had a problem so far.. (knock on wood).

Oh btw.. I'm in Norway and the winters here aren't very forgiving either

I have had my 2000 CL500 for 6 years now. It seems to use a battery every 2 years.
There is some kind of drain that occurs only on occassion. And when the Battery is newer.
It doesnt seem to be an issue. When I leave it for more than a weekend I put it on a trickle charger. Just seems to be the nature of the beast. But there is some phantom power drain in one of the control modules that happens once in awhile and does not help the Battery Life.

Question battery draining slowly

I've tried the fuse business with no results. What is an SDS?
