when i use the parking brake release handle i. have to ease the foot brake up manually and it take a couple of attempts to release the brake but RHS side seems to slightly sticks.
any guides, video links to show me how to clean maintain and adjust the parking brake.
The parking brake uses an old style drum system built into the rear brake rotor. Since you say only one side is sticking you should start by checking it mechanically. This should help:
CDD, I see that you are relatively new here, but did you think to look through the C209 Stickies? - always located at the top of the daily posts to this forum. These are saved threads that cover solutions to many common CLK problems.
We discussed CLK parking brake issues here several years ago:
The parking brake on my car has never been very impressive, even after adjustment and servicing. In fact most of the time I simply leave the car parked in P. (Fortunately, Norfolk is as flat as a pancake!)
This is an old thread... but maybe can help anybody else ...the existings ones...didn't help me , with the problem of stuck / or not smooth foot break release...
loosen the hand break cable from the assembly first...
then...
next..
next...
oil it here too...
rusty springs after a few years...
put the whole foot break assembly back in place... tighten the bolts to the end by hand....
and with one hand on foot break ..push it down as hard as you can... and with the other hand pull up the end of main spring (anti-clockwise )
(see picture bellow..)
so it releases the pedal... i've to do this several times until it becomes a little loose...
when it is a little free... pull the brake pedal up...
remove the two 13mm bolts to remove the brake assembly,
with a plier carefully release the plastic guide of cable from main assembly and ...
remove the brake cable...
on a bench separate the foot brake lever from the rest...
brush the rust from the coil and assembly to make it a little decent
clean it with spray of cleaning brake fluid...
brush the main spring too
i've used cooper grease...if you have marine grease it's better...
put all parts as it was before, test it for smooth operation...put back the c-clip and washer
put back the brake cable, hand release cable, brake switch... clean hands from grease and bolt it on the car as it was...
If you don't have any part broken, there is no need to buy a second hand foot brake assembly, only clean and lubrificate it and its good as new.
The mechanical foot brake operation it's very simply to understand once you have dissemble it all.
hope this help another poor soul with a common problem...
the fotos are from mine W208 foot brake assembly, but looking on my w209... it's almost the same thing, if you got the idea why it gets stuck you repair one...you repair all!
hope i've never to do this again in this car and that it last for many years again as it took to get stuck
