My soft top wont close again. I've had nothing but issues this year with the roof. I've replaced microswitches, the rear cargo blind struts and roof hinges. Everything was working well for a while but today....the roof refused to close again. I' m just wondering if there is something more sinister going on with the electronics of the car that I may not be aware. I have noticed opening and closing
the partition bag control to allow more booth space and then repositioning it later, has in the past has sometimes been a precedent to the roof malfunctioning. Could it be poorly installed rear cargo blind struts?
Curious to the thoughts of forum members on this one.
I hear a little beep and and then this message on the MDF 'Top open. Visit workshop'.
The roof oped all the way as usual. It completed the entire opening sequence. It just wouldn't close.
I have a suspicion it could be linked to my cargo blind struts?
I used the key fob yesterday to open and close the roof. It opened yesterday but did not close the roof. I tried the button in the car but to no avail
Update!!
The last time this happened. My mechanic said it worked straight away after I drove it to his workshop and left it with him. So just before I took it for a drive along some slightly bumpy roads. Got it home and the roof closed!!
This is not a problem with the trunk partition. When its struts get weak so that it does not close securely enough to trip its microswitch, you get a message "close trunk partition". A "visit workshop" message means that the system has detected an implausible condition. This is probably a bad microswitch, but it's one that is flaky - it registers correctly at one point, then as things continue to move, it changes its status. You really need to pull codes from the soft top controller to know what this is.
You were spot on rudeney. The diagnostic revealed an error code for the right microswitch above the windscreen near the latch. Mechanic thinks it sticks ( greae) sometimes. He advised to press the switch a few times if the roof refuses to close again. He did not think it is worth replacing the switch as yet.
So a flaky microswitch and nothing to do with the partition bag.
Well the roof has refused to close again!! I'm going to have that flaky switch replaced.
Strange though. Once again this happened after a long trip where I had to create more room in the boot of the car for extra luggage. After returnng home, I reactivatedthe partition bag , opened the roof....everything went well but when I activated the roof to close...the dreaded message 'VISIT THE WORKSHOP' appeared so now I'm left with a car with no roof. Ive tried taking it for a drive to 'move' things but to no avail. It worked last time.
If so, I'd pop the trim off the top of the windshield and take a look at it. Maybe you can coax it into working to get the roof closed until you get a replacement.
Hey Guys,
I have been following this thread for a while now, I'm having the same issues with my Soft Top. I did take the advice of Rodney and use CRC Electrical Cleaner, however, when I went to the store to purchace the product I found another product, it's made by the same company but it's call CRC 2-26 CRC 2-26 5 oz. Multi-Purpose Lubricant-02004 - The Home Depot. I sprayed both sides of the connectors of switch S84/18. I'll keep you posted on the results.
Mechanic is 99.9 percent sure it is a faulty microswitch. He has ordered part number a209 820 2410. Showing up as faulty on diagmostics. Previous mechamics replaced A2098201910 and A2098202110.
He said hopefully we won't have to change the entire assembly. What is this assembly he is talking about....apparently has six switches.
Quite an expensive affair apparently.
The diagram is great Rudeney but I have two left hands.... Thanks anyway. Much appreciated.
