I have the stock 245 rear and 225 front on the OEM 17" rims. What is the widest tire I can install on the front and rear OEM rims?

These are 245/40-17 front & rear . . .

They work on the front.

Thanks, I was looking to have 255 in the back. I am fine with the fronts. But, that is good to know you can run 245 in the front as well on the stock rim. Does this mean it is safe to run 265 on the rear stock rims? I can seem to find much about putting wider tires on the stock rims.

This is interesting. I did not know that by just changing the tread width, you are also changing the sidewall height even when the tire numbers (40-17) are the same!

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
245/40-17 3.9in 12.4in 24.7in 77.6in 816 0.0%
255/40-17 4.0in 12.5in 25.0in 78.6in 806 1.3%
265/40-17 4.2in 12.7in 25.3in 79.6in 796 2.5%

I guess the next step is to find a tire that is wider with a 3.9 inch sidewall.

Perhaps you can go with a 275/35-17 . . .

Now that would look hot !

Looks OK. But, would that width be an issue for the stock rim? It might rub the fender as well.
