Need Tires for 2005 CLK320

So I need new tires for a 2005 CLK320 which I just purchased. Anyone have recommendations on a certain type of tire that will be amazing on this car?

I am unsure of what type of tires to get this is my first Mercedes and don't want to put any tires on that will ruin the rise or performance.

Thanks guys!

Very common question, but you have to align your priorities before picking a tire. There is no such thing as "the best" tire because those priorities are different for different people.

Fuel Economy?
Ride Comfort?
All season or summer performance?
Handling in the rain?

That said, both Michelin and Continental are OE suppliers to MB and are on all of the approved lists. But even at that you still have to decide if you're leaning more for performance or longevity.

And, of course, do a search. There are numerous threads on tires and I doubt much new can be added to what is already there.

You can also look at the ratings and spec systems at Tire Rack, they have a pretty large database of information there, all free for the reviewing. Plug in your car, pick some tire parameters, dial in to a few that look promising, then read the reviews, etc. Wherever you buy them, that's a terrific resource, and it's free.

Good luck and enjoy the ride!

^^^ Very good advice

However I will add that I really like the Continental ContiPro-Contact tires. I've had them on several cars. I like them because they are quiet, smooth, and give a comfortable ride. If you want performance tires, though, they are not for you. I also don't drive my nice cars in the rain and I don't care one whit about longevity! Why is why what CC says above is on the mark--it's all about what's important to you.

I need shoes for my CLK, too. I'm going with the Michelin Primacy MXM4's. They seem to have good all around ratings for traction and tread wear, plus a 45K mile warranty. I have always been very satisfied with every Michelin tire I've owned. The Pirellis on the car now have not lasted well and don't stay in balance. I have had mostly good luck with Bridgestone. I've had one set of Contis, and they wore out way faster than they should have.

I got a CLK 500 with AMG package and I put on Hankook Ventus V12 about a year and a half ago. So far I love the tires. Dont be fooled by the price, they dont cost too much, but they run great.

Barely and tire noise
Good traction and handling
Good in rain (to a certain extent, these are sports/summer tires)
Good wear

Living in the DC area we have City, Highway, and "County" driving so these tires work good in all 3. For some reason German Luxury cars love EATING tires. They may run for 15-20k before you need new ones. So shop wisely.

Id give these tires a B+ or A

By the way: Tirevan is a great way to get tires! Check to see if they are in your area.

Tirerack has reviews for tires they sell. I usually use them as a source when buying a new set of tires.

I've been browsing for a 17" matched set as well. So far, I've narrowed it order of current Conti ExtremeContact DWS, Kumho Ecsta 4X, General G-Max AS-03, Bridgestone RE970AS, and Yokohama AVID ENVigor.

FWIW for me, a tire that can be crowned as "best" must do all things reasonably well (given the compromised nature of "All-Season" categorization), AND have exceptional treadlife. It's also worth noting that I have zero expectations, of All-Season's, for winter-weather performance. For that I use winter tires (on 16" rims). The only reason I prefer All-Seasons over Summer tires is that I'm in it for the treadlife...and All-Seasons tend to last longer.

For ride, stickiness and noise, I have always loved Yokohamas.

Unlike any other.
