I bought new bearings from kragen. When I pulled apart my hubs i showed the races to the guys working in both Kragen and Autozone and they said that they looked great reuse them so I packed and put in the NEW bearings with the OLD races. Old rear seals were bad and the grease was dirty. Am I in trouble? Should I buy a new set and start over? My buddy who works on cars said always change them together they are a matched set.
You SHOULD change them as a matched set.
The tolerances between the racers and bearings are checked and inspected for a perfect match. There could also be a difference in angles on the races versus the bearing especially from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Also remember machining tolerances will occur which leaves another variable.
I personally prefer to change them as a set. Nothing worse than looking for a noise in the front end and it winds up being the bearings you just replaced.
wish they would have pointed that out to me when I showed them the races. How long can I go, my wheel's not gonna fall off right? Can I wait say a month?
Wheel won't fall off.
What you'll probably experience is premature bearing wear.
Outside chance but highly unlikely it has affected your alignment.
I see people leave the bearings with old racers for years, I just personally wouldn't do it.
