Guide Lines On Reversing Camera

i currently own a April 2010 E350 CDI Cabriolet, a friend of mine has just picked up his E350 CDI Cab last week.

we both have reversing camera feature although his 6months newer vehicle has reversing guidelines on the display when he puts it into reverse.

does anyone know if there is a s/w update available from the local dealerships for this feature to be added or is it a hardware feature.

i tried calling Mercedes Benz customer service but they don't have a clue.

anyone's help would be much appreciated.

thanks

Al

you would have thought that this is possible with a software update, could you get pictures?
Mine is in tomorrow and will ask the service manager about it.

2011 E-350 doesn't have grid lines

I just took delivery of a 2011 coupe, E-350, and to my disappointment the backing camera does not have guide lines. The 2011 manual is fairly vague -- it shows a view with the grid and says you may or may not have them "depending on date of manufacture." That doesn't sound like a software update to me.

I just bought a 2011 E550 Coupe, and it doesn't have he guides. Its competitors all have better screens and software. Namely, the Audi MMI is so impressive. What a shame that a $60k+ car doesn't have better features.

i arranged for my vehicle to receive a software update yesterday but on taking my vehicle in and being put on the star mod machine it stated that i had the latest version of software already installed.

i spoke to the sales rep and her advised me that when you now order the extra revering camera it is now called reversing camera with guidelines as the option so there is a slight possibility that this is a hardware mod within the camera.

i hope someone proves me wrong at it proves to be a software update when the next one gets released.

does anyone know when we can find out when a new s/w version gets released for the command unit?

Not offered in Sept.

I ordered my car in Sept. and the "with guidelines" option wasn't mentioned.

If the camera is a basic web/surveillance sensor, almost all display features are software controlled. I hope that's the case, but certainly don't know for sure.

Perivious reviews that I have read mentioned the "guiding lines" only with the Disctronic.

Maybe your friend has that option and didn't tell you...

You're right -- the 550 had Disctronic, which also comes with backup sensors. Guess that makes sense.

it must be the distronic. I just picked up a 2011 E350 cabrio this weekend with P2 but no Distronic/Backup Sensors (why they're packaged together I don't understand) and it, sadly, does not have the guide lines.

This is odd though - we have a 2010 ML350 with P1, which includes the backup camera, and it has the guidelines. The car does NOT have distronic or parktronic.
