Before and after - a 362 day journey

On October 22, 2006 I got a 1978 450SL. I'd found it in a little town in Southern Utah. The body was fairly straight but that was all I knew about it. I decided I wanted it and it was trailered out to SoCal where I live. It had seen better days.
The PO had put in one of those cheesy fake Euro back seats.
The wood was cracked and faded.
The blades in the grill screen were faded and some of them were broken.
It wasn't even a 10-footer, unless you were only looking at the front. From the doors forward there was still some shine to the paint.
From the doors back you could see this car had been left out in the weather too long and buffed out too many times. In spots the primer was showing through.
There had also been just one too many "quick fixes".
It didn't run and that was the first priority. I started into it without knowing anything about MB engines. It's been a learning experience over the last year.
