A diary of the planning and execution of a 10,000 mile road trip.
Finances

I was going over my finances today. Didn't take long 'cause I got none. It must be hell being wealthy and all the extra work that goes along with it.
I have an uphill battle if I am going to pull this trip off. I promised myself that I wouldn't leave with any personal debt (i.e. credit card). I also need to buy new shoes and a new hat for the SL. Christmas is coming, my tired Civic has 380,000Kms on it, one kid in braces...the other not far behind...the list goes on.
Do you think lottery tickets might help?

| | Lottery tickets might help, or they might just use up money that could go to help pay for the 500 gallons of gas your car is going to use on this trip. 10,000 miles. I'm not that brave, not even with my 78. |

| | This brings up a thoughtful point. As you plan your route, why not post inquiries about indies along the way? Lotsa people are willing to share their mechanics. Let the shops know about when to expect you to pass through and then stop in and say Hi. They might even look your ride over and offer a bit of advice you haven't heard yet (as if that's likely the way you post all over the web!). Anyway, it might be an inexpensive insurance policy. After all, you'll probably be planning places to sleep, won't you? Why not treat the SL to a little of the same? Wouldn't it be nice if Gottfried in Elk Ankle, Tonskatoon peeked under the hood and noticed that 'framisator' that's about to blow before you've gotten 2 hours out of town? Knowing who's just up ahead as well as who you just left behind might make the difference in whether you push on in the face of mechanical trouble or double back to a safe harbor. Just a thought. |

| | I think Dig makes a good argument for some additional planning. |

| | Thanks for the idea, Dig. I have in my possession, the MB directory for North America which I am bringing along but indies along the way is good too. Anyways, my SL WILL NOT BREAK DOWN!! |

| | My original comment did not appear so I will try again. As someone sagely suggested, your SL will not break down. It could merely cease to progress down the road. Anyway... Imagine all of the indies along your route who are reading of this upcoming event and hoping that the famous Nobby, together with his trusty 107, will grace their humble establishments with his presence. |
