Mystery Engine Gremlin "79 280CE (W123)

I have a very low mileage 1979 280CE. Problems may have started when I accidentally filled up with diesel. My mechanic did what was necessary and the car ran OK for probably 150 miles. It then started to cough and splutter. Back to the shop and out running like new (new leads, plugs, rotor etc.

A 20mile run and it dies at the destination. NO SPARK WHATSOEVER. Back to the shop, initial diagnosis ignition module, wrong, checked by a specialist with all the gadgets. 3 weeks in the shop being, starting and running on a good day, dead that afternoon. Is it temperature related ?

Hi Plantac

I've just stumbled on your thread and perhaps you solved the problem. I had a W123 (assuming you have the same), which had a similar problem. Turned out it had a corroded "Earth Strap". Noting that you are in Brisbane, I would take it to the Auto Sparky on Creek Rd at Mt Gravatt East (if he's still there), he's behind a Service Station, possibly an Independent. The Guy is a genius and very affordable. 99/100, it will be something electrical and there's not much can go wrong electrically on W123.
