becker mexico

Hi there one and all,

Just got a w123 and it had the original Becker Mexico radio /cassette fitted.

Whilst the aerial still operates as it should ( that is it goes up and down as the radio is switched on and off ) all the radio does is screetch at me . And the cassette deck will not hold the tape in firmly.

As this is a one owner from new and stupidly original car with a full history I really want to keep this system - anyone know of a place where I can get the Becker serviced and made good ?/

Here in Perth would be good - but I get to go to Melbourne quite frequently so that is o.k to.

Ta muchlyness,

I bought my "79 280 CE about 4 years ago with only 1 owner and 160K on the clock. The fitted Becker /Mexico was not operating. As i recollect I took it out (Quite Easy) and the problem was in the press button auto tune.Im not the sharpest tool in the shed but whatever I did was quite obvious when t you open it up. Its ran perfectly ever since, but i dont risk pre tuning it. Nor haveItackled why the Cassette doesnt work, leave that for another day. Most cassettes you can get these days have been flogged to death anyway. Plantac
