I have spent a small fortune getting my 2000 ML320 serviced at the dealer.
I have decided to take it to an independent from now on.
The two local ones are Burnley Automotive in Richmond and Amstar in Fairlfield.
Anyone used either ???
I would recomend Peterstar Motors in Braesise (if it's not to far for you)
Germar guys, years of expirience, up to date equipment and good honest service.

On buying parts - I find that most dealers sell at RRP and a couple sell over this !
So all very expensive - for minor purchases I would ring the dealer closest to you and get a price, then check this with another dealer to make sure that your dealer is not one that charges over the RRP.
Dealers that I have used (and just charge list price) are Worrels in Toorak and 3 Point in Farifield. 3 Point parts used to be open on Saturday morning which was good.
For more expensive purchases (say over $100) I use MBspares who I think are in Canberra. They are a bit under 1/2 the price of Dealers and supply the same parts. If I order by about 1 p.m. the parts usually arrive the next day. Freight is $16 for a reasonable amount (2 heavy engine mounts were still $16)
Example of savings is a thermostat for my 190E was $65 at a dealer, $29 at MBspares. The guy on the phone is a bit dull - but he knows his mercedes parts well.
I recommend Auto Dynamics in Cheltenham ..Vegan the mechanic loves and knows his old Benz's..rates are comparable and parts pricing fair...I found him to outperform the big dealer mechanics....
had reasonable experiences with Alan Lennox Bulleen.
They rebuild Tranny, stil a bit tricky when cold shifting...will go back one more time.
Overall seem fair and reasonable, but would welcome other people experience.
Thanks to the post from 'Red Laser' I hunted down the guys at Auto Dynamics in Cheltenham to look after my E-55 AMG. It was running rough and made a terrible squeaking sound when changing up through the gears. I had already been quoted from the dealer to fix the problem. The guys at Auto Dynamics fixed it perfectly for almost half the price! Needless to say I was satisfied and will be returning in the future. Thanks again Redlaser for your thread, the information has saved me plenty of $$$$
