Got my car brake pads changed for front and back. Called the dealer and they recommend to change both front and back disks together with the pads and quoted $800 just for labour. TJ came and check it out those disks and no change required. all in $440!

Mechanic for vintage merc

I bought a 1972 3.5L w108 from NSW and need to get a RWC for Victorian registration. As my luck would have it, it has a cracked sub frame. Can anyone recommend a mechanic that works on vintage mercs? I'm in Melbourne but happy to travel to a good mechanic.

i had a quote to replace slk compressor from f w graunke and it was $700 cheaper than 2 other quotes. not sure if its the labor component as they all charge about $100 an hour plus GST, so would have to be part itself as they have access to some non-factory or second hand parts. anyway it did not end up to be a compressor that was faulty, but overall i am happy with the shop. i agree with prev posts about the customer service from the front can be better, but i am happy with the mechanical side, Ralf Graunke was the guy I dealt with. so i will go back there, also they have a loan car which helps when you dont live near furntree gully. :-)

Though I should add my good Sunroof repairer experience to the Melbourne list.

I found a trimmer & sunroof repairer who fixed the W124 sunroof curse!

I firstly bought lifting arms and a seal from fruit parts and he fitted, adjusted the mech motor and properly aligned the sunroof. He also fixed the sunroof trim that was butchered/broken by a previous trimmer and fixed up the headlining. He's pretty experienced in Euro cars (drives one himself) and has apparently been doing them for 20 years.

I found him via Prestige Sunroof's who said they deal more aftermarket Webasto than OEM stuff.

Anyhow, he's a small shop in Tulla, called AAA Cooling & Trimming Pty Ltd, 0417 858 009.

Looking for TJ

Hi all, first time poster here so please let me know if I am breaking any etiquettes.

Could someone please PM me TJ's of Fab Automobile Services new contact details? I need to book a regular service with him in the next 3 weeks or so.

His mobile phone and 1 300 number is inactive. Is he away overseas again or is he no longer doing this? Last time I spoke with him is in November 2012.

Thanks in advance.

Can endorse DOE Prestige in Moorabbin
Doe Prestige Automotive
Peter lets me source my own parts, and I'd recommend Pelican Parts in the USA (Michael Ashcraft was the most helpful in the Mercedes Section there in May 2013), or for oxygen sensors get the 'Walker Parts' sensors which are fully compatible with the Bosch, from in the USA (eg $220 USD for two). You can get walker products sensors from retailers here eg Repco but they are ripoff prices eg they wanted $700 for the two, exactly the same.
Refer my posting in the whirlpool forum:
Also I would suggest anyone with a high mileage w203, eg 120,000km or more, replaces the two camshaft magnet sensor wiring harnesses for eg $30 each or else risk oil leaking into the main wiring harness which will cost you $4000 to repair by mercedes or $1500 approx by Peter at DOE prestige (if you source your own parts from the USA)
Also I got my timing chain replaced, again parts cheaper from Pelican parts eg $50 USD for the chain compared with $250 USD for 'Mercedes' Brand. The manual does not seem to recommend what mileage to replace this at
I am about to replace my w203 and just wanted to share this information
Brighton, Victoria

I'd give these guys a shot. Small, honest, transparent, very well equipped and very affordable. They've got limited overheads so they can do really good on prices.

I know this thread is probably getting a little old but I've just bought a CLK500 W209 and want to find a quality mechanic in Melbourne (North/East) to service it. I was going to change plugs and oil change myself however I think I can hear some valve/lifter rattle so want to get it checked properly. I've been recommend Peter Lennox in Thomastown, Richmond Motors in Richmond and a place called Khoury Spare Parts in Campbellfield. If anyone could provide feedback it would be greatly appreciated.
