I read that Mercedes was going to install a UHI for cell phones in cars that they began manufacturing in June of this year. Do any of you know if that interface will be able to be retrofitted to pre-2003 (or is it pre-2004) automobiles?

Thanks,

Normally if you want to retrofit that you'll need to change the calculator on the car, it's not exactly an easy job.

I have my UHI installed on my new car and it's not fully clear of bugs.

With my Nokia 6310 it is fully working but not with my 6310i, I hear people but I can't speak.

Dick,

so far UHI is only available as factory installed option by ordering code 386 for EUR 460. Once the parts become available in a month or so, one can retrofit them. Here's some more info and a picture of the connector, cover removed, in a CLK 320 cabrio. That's a cool armrest by the way. Can be opened towards left, right or front.

My 2002 C240 already has the 203 820 25 85 PSE for 6310i for MB with D2B with a A203 820 06 51 phone cradle. Would the UHI allow me to use another phone with that PSE?

Dick, for UHI to work the Nokia PSE must be exchanged for the UHI PSE. That PSE of yours works with these Nokias (but not any Motorola or Siemens phones):
Nokia 5110, Nokia 5130, Nokia 6110, Nokia 6130, Nokia 6150, Nokia 6210, Nokia 6310, Nokia 6310i

I just got back from my MB dealer who finally got my Nokia 6310i working in the UHI.

Mercedes was shipping the wrong phones with the cars, apparently the Nokia firmware on the phone MUST be V4.07 or it won't work with the UHI.

I called first Nokia to get a downgrade from V5.50 to V4.07 but they couldn't do it, so MB had to give me a new phone specially shipped from MB Germany with a special firmware on it to make it work.

So watch out if you wanne buy one.

If I wanted to install the UNI interface in my car, what would I need to do? For example, it appears that there is a UNI interface that will work with a variety of phones, rather than just Nokia or Siemens. Here is what you list in your post:

Portable Support Electronics (PSE), phone controller or Telefon Steuergerät
220 820 13 85 PSE for Nokia phones with D2B
220 820 09 85 PSE for phones with D2B
203 820 25 85 PSE for Nokia phones (incl 6310i) with D2B
211 820 13 85 PSE for Nokias (incl 6310i) in W211 with MOST
BQ 682 0648 PSE for Motorola Timeport
BQ 682 0754 PSE for Timeport or V60 autosense (replaced)
BQ 682 0845 PSE as of Jan 03 this is latest and greatest Moto PSE

Can I assume that the "220 820 09 85 PSE for phones with D2B" will work with Nokia 6310i, Siemens S45, S45i, C45, M50, MT50 and ME45, Motorola V60i and Siemens S55 and Siemens C55?

Also, do you have any idea what the part numbers are for the adapters you list?

UHI adapter for Nokia 6310i, Nokia 6310 as well as Nokia 6210
UHI adapter for Siemens S45, S45i, C45, M50, MT50 and ME45
UHI adapter for Motorola V60i
UHI adapter for Siemens S55 and Siemens C55

Thanks,

Dick

You'll need the UHI PSE for D2B. The part number is not released as far as I know. Try something like 203 820 26 85 and see if your dealer can find it. You'll also need the connector and harness to go with it.

The cradle/adapter for the Nokia 6310i is part number B6 787 5822 and in stock for EUR 104 list.

Thanks, but I already have the Nokia 6310i installed in my Mercedes. GSM is not the appropriate solution where I live because there are a number of small towns that get no reception. Even when I do get reception, on a highway for example, I'll lose the signal when driving through certain areas.

So I am assuming that the UNI PSE for D2B will allow me to hook-up a TDMA or CDMA phone, e.g., Motorola V60i (Non-Mercedes) or any other phone that an interface is ultimately developed for.

The adapters you listed in your post include:

UHI adapter for Nokia 6310i, Nokia 6310 as well as Nokia 6210
UHI adapter for Siemens S45, S45i, C45, M50, MT50 and ME45
UHI adapter for Motorola V60i
UHI adapter for Siemens S55 and Siemens C55

And they all appear to be for GSM phones (except the Motorola V60i -- unless that phone is the GSM version). I need a solution other than GSM.

So, could I use the V60i and do you know the adapter part number? What do you suggest?

Thanks,

Dick

The V60i adapter is B6 787 5824. Not sure how it works with non GSM phones. It was/will be released for non-US markets only and US dealers don't sell it. I use Nokia and Siemens phones on GSM.

220 820 09 85 PSE for phones with D2B
203 820 26 85 PSE for UHI with D2B

A contact in Germany gave me a price on the 220 820 09 85 part. How is that different from the 203 820 26 85 part?

Thanks,

220 820 09 85 is the Nokia PSE for the W220 S-Class w/o support for the 6310i.

203 820 26 85 is not yet a valid part number, so I removed it again, and will probably? be assigned to the UHI PSE for the C-Class once it becomes available in a few months. UHI started shipping on new cars just a few weeks ago, in June. It usually takes 2-3 months after introduction until spare parts are made available via MB's parts ordering system.

Hi Wolfgang,

I checked for part # A2208200985 which is listed in the Mercedes Classic parts catalog as: A2208200985
MOUNTING EUR 280.35 and states that, "The part is available." You thought, in a former post, that this would be the number for a UNI for D2B. IF that guess was correct, it can now be obtained as a part. Would you have any idea what the cradle adapter number might be for a Siemens phone? Your help/advise will be appreciated.

I am not certain which post your response is related to, but, I have some experience trying to get the 6340i to work in a 6310i cradle (and with a 6310i PSE). In my experience -- plugging one directly into my 6310i cradle -- it doesn't work. First, the earpiece end doesn't clamp over the wider 6340i earpiece, and Second, the 6340i doesn't integrate with the 6310i PSE. The parts in my car include: Control Unit A203 820 25 85 and Phone Cradle A203 820 06 51.

Again, the 6340i does not work with these parts.

I just noticed that the carkit cradle I bought from Nokia for the 6310i and the carkit cradle from the Alpine Mobilehub for 6310i are the same as the one Cingular installed in my older Benz for the 6340i. I tried both phones on all the three cradles and they fit perfectly in all three. Unless the Mercedes part requires Bluetooth than the 6340i would not work.

E500 2003 w/o any phone

Any information would be appreciated...

I have a 2003 E500 without any phone kit. I am planning on adding it. The dealer kit (with the Motorola v60i, I believe) runs somewhere close to $2000.00. I am hoping to find a more reasonable way, but to keep the same quality I experience with the TeleAid service.

I currently own a variety of Samsung cellphones as well as Siemens (S45 to be exact) which might seem like my best bet.

My main questions, can someone clarify if Bluetooth can be added to my vehicle? Could the new UNI stuff allow me to use my Siemens S45 handset and still use the dial/call controls on my radio and steering wheel?

I have other plans to look to add a NAV/SAT system like in the 2004 E-Class.

I really love my E, but I am kinda upset that my dealer didn't point out the 7-speed auto in the 2004 (I took delivery of my vehicle in August and would have been willing to wait).

Thanks,
