Poor Quality Output from Auxiliary Jack

I love the HK sound system in the 2008 MB-350. It is out of date with connectivity. I have an Android that I would like to use as an imput device. When I connect an Android the sound is good just too quiet. CD's Rock the car, But anything plugged into the Aux jack gets only a good medium volume. I like to make the rear view mirror shake! Any suggestions?

It is pretty well buried in the forums, but Floobydust did an excellent series of tests and analysis, and explained the reason this happens here: OEM iPod Adapter vs. In-Dash CD vs. Gateway 500 - MBWorld.org Forums

The solution is a small inline amplifier that Mercedes sells (or sold). Astoundingly the price for it was 99¢, and Mercedes insisted it was not a mistake - but I think the price is now $99. Good question. How are you connecting the Android device, cpslaughter? I took your "Aux jack" to mean a 3.5mm stereo jack, which is what the small amp is for.

BTW, in models as late as '06 the MB iPod kit used the 3.5mm jack, and experienced volume problems. I can't speak for the '08.

I can't speak for the MB kits as of '08 - but the MB iPod kits that would retrofit models through '06 in fact took the 3.5mm AUX plug away. While the kits provided a 30 pin iPod connector, the wiring from that connector (at least the audio leads) went through the 3.5mm connector wiring; one no longer had use of the 3.5mm plug after the adapter was installed. Those MB kits also provided the kind of information you mentioned.

It was the routing of those audio leads through the AUX wiring that prompted the need for the inline amp that I mentioned, in the cars that originally had the 3.5mm input.

It was the absence of any 3.5mm AUX input in the '04-'06 S-Class that prevented the MB iPod kit from being able to be used in those cars at all.
