1991 190e - Can't remove the radio
Finally bought by first Mercedes and have quickly fallen in love with it. It has a few minor issues I'm trying to fix (much thanks to this site, it's helped a ton). Right now I'm trying to get the stereo working. It's asking for a code. I've already been to the dealer for it, but the code they gave me didn't work. They said, in that case, I need to pull the stereo and get the part number. Since I'm going to be replacing it soon, I didn't want to pay them $70, and figured I could do it myself.
I found this YouTube video
and it seemed simple enough. I got to the part where you pull down on the two metal tabs (see photo) and the deck is supposed to slide right out. It moves about 1/4in, but no further. Anyone have any ideas? I asked the guy at the dealer's parts counter, and he said there are screws at the top of the unit too. Any truth to that? I'd just as soon not tear the entire console apart if I don't need to.
While I'm at it, does anyone know what kind of stereo this is? I've been told factory installed Blaupunkt, Alpine, and that it's a knockoff.
