I've recently heard rumors that an iPhone cradle, formerly only available for the first generation iPhone, has been released for the iPhone 3G. I was wondering if anybody else has heard the same, and whether there is any further information on this item.
When I enquired at my dealership, they acknowledged that they've heard of it, but didn't have any other details. However, I read on other websites that some dealerships have already accepted orders. Unfortunately, Wireless4mb has not provided much help either.
But there IS an actual iPhone 3G cradle now as well.
Do you know where I can purchase a 3G iPhone cradle? My local MB dealer referred me to wireless4mb and wireless4mb just informed me theirs works only for the original iPhone.
Both posters noting actual availablity are from Europe.
Different system in USA cars, I believe, although "BigSis" should know for sure as she's in reality MBenzNL. Would be nice to know that part number.
Regarding wireless4MB, they are a bit "shifty" as regards these cradles. When I bought mine they assured me it would work, but then shipped it with lots of disclaimer documentation--not a pleasant experience, but mine is working although getting the phone in is always a challenge.

If there is an actual iPhone 3G cradle, I'd love to get one. I just got an '06 E500 4Matic and my only complaint is not being able to charge my iPhone 3G while listening to music and talking on the phone. Seriously though, I would like to cradle the phone, the AUX in will do for now, but it's not an elegant solution, and there's already a cradle in the car begging me to replace it with something useful.
The part number for the Comand Online Ltd iPhone 3G cradle is A 204 820 39 51. It works very well with a MBenzNL UHI kit in my 2003 CLK55. The 3G slips into this cradle much easier than with the non-3G cradle, but even better, the bluebooth connection works without the phone plugged into the cradle. So if want to charge your 3G, you plug it into the cradle, if not, leave it in your pocket/purse/etc. and you still have full hands-free control and phonebook download. I can promise that MBenzNL (Steve and Big Sis) will treat you right--they are first rate!
