Problem with install Mobridge

I bought mObridge Bluetooth with iPod interface...

I have Mercedes Benz C 220cdi 2006 (w203), I'm from Europe.
My car had no previous phone system installed. I also had the menu that said "No Phone". I have multifunction steering wheel, command unit and I don't have a CD changer.

I try to install the mObridge Bluetooth by myself, but I don't have any manual I found some informations on a websites...

I can't find a orange fiber optic cable :-(

Do you have some of you a manual how to install it?

Can you help me please...

Fiber Cable is in the trunk, underneath the trunk liner, you should see the fiber cable plugged into your head unit....If it is not you will have to run one. You will have to use SDS to allow for your MF Cluster etc to work.

You do not have an fiber optic in your car since you do not have any components that require it. Your car is probably very similar to mine. I also recently installed a mObridge unit and in the kit a 1m fiber optic cable was supplied. You will need to use this but since you don't have any other components to loop it with, you will need to purchase a connector (see attached picture) to attach to the other end. Also, download the attached Porsche install manual. This is also available on mObridge's website. That assisted me. As far as where to put the unit, I chose to put it below the metal panel down in the passenger foot well. You have to bend some of the metal prongs, and the 1m fiber is barely long enough. Another good spot is in the glove compartment since you don't have a CD changer, but you will have to drill some holes for the cables. I didn't like that. Others have suggested behind the COMAND, but I didn't think there was enough room there.

Another important note is that you will have to go to the dealer (or someone else with similar ability) to have your MOST ring enabled. Have them populate "component 1" as the CD changer. You also may have to have them enable your steering wheel buttons. I don't know for sure if yours will. I have TELEAID installed so my buttons were already enabled. Also as a disclaimer, all my experience quoted here is based off a US Spec MCSII COMAND.

Hope this helps. Post more questions if you have them.

So, from the pdf above I assume the mobrigde sales packet includes a pair of short fibre cables? If it does, you can ignore the extension part and just connect the fibre cables to and from the head unit and mobiridge.

If it only comes with a single short fibre cable, you would need to buy another one to be able to build a fibre loop between the two devices. I believe you can find part numbers here if you want to help your parts guy:

Thanks Diesel Benz, that's a good point. I'll clarify, In the kit two fibers are supplied which extend from the connector that goes into the mObridge unit. On one cable it is bare except for the ferrule which is crimped on the fiber, and on the other cable, the splice connection piece is clipped on. I removed the extension piece and got another connector which snapped on the two fibers. Then this piece went into the HU. Of course you have to observe the output and input of each device. "Out" from one device goes to the "in " of the other device.

- Are you sure you did connect the correct fibre to the input of the Comand and the output of this Mobridge?
- Did you connect the wake-up line too?

Edited: someone with experience on this product, I did not find a wake-up line to the device on the wiring diagram above. Is this one supposed to work only in parallel with a CDC (controlled by the by-pass switch)?

1) YES, I'm sure I connected the correct fibre...
2) I don't know what do you wake-up line mean? If you mean batter power and vehicle ground, than YES I connected these cables...

No, I don't mean these but the MOST wake-up line, see this document:
http://www.mercedestechstore.com/pdf...2007-01-04.pdf

I cannot see how the HU would know something is connected to the ring if the ring device is not connected to the wake-up line. I could understand an existing CDC taking care of this, and then mobridge "stealing" the CDC function depending on the switch setting.

If you cannot figure this out, perhaps owners who have experience about this device without any other devices connected to the MOST ring, could help. Or you could ask help from the manufacturer, I have no experience myself about non-OEM devices.

There is no wake up signal with this product, which is why I believe that mObridge stresses that after hoooking everything up properly (power, bypass switch, and fibers) that you must let the entire MOST system go to sleep. Now, (I am quoting from their literature) "the system goes to a low power state", but because you wire it to constant power, I believe it is always watching for the MOST ring to "wake up" and then will "join" the network. This is my understanding.

So to help sonixcz, do these checks:

1. Get inside the car, power everything down. Then hold the two fibers coming from the HU and watch them as you power up the system. You should see red light coming from one of them. if you see red light then your MOST ring was at least activated.

2. The cable that was omitting light goes to the "in" connector on the mObridge. This is the one with the arrow pointing towards the mObridge.

3. Check your power. The mObridge must be hooked up to constant power. Not to insult your intelligence, but this means that even when the key is out, it must be powered.

4. The bypass switch must be open. If in doubt, remove it and insulate the wires, but don't connect them.

Once you have verified this, as far as I know, you at least have it hooked up properly.
