i have a cd changer in my glove box and i have removed it. there are 2 connections that i had to unhook. the fiber optics plug and the power plug.
the power plug has 3 wires. blue, red, brown. then dension has only 2 wires. red, black.
i'm guessing that i have to split these wires to give the dension power. which wires do i use?
also, i'm not understanding the fiber optics cables. i'm looking at the installation guide and it shows there is a car side and a cdc side. what is a cdc side? where do i connect these too?

you will be making all the connections at the CD changer.
ok first power cables. red wire from the dension gets tapped on to red at the changer. Black wire from the dension is tapped to Brown at the changer. the blue wire is unused for the dension.
The optical cables are really easy. the optical cable plug that you removed from the CDC will plug directly into the dension module. plug that into the 'car' side. you will have an optical cable set in the kit with two more of those plugs, one on each end. plug one end into the dension 'CDC' side and the other into the CDC.
also, it doesn't seem that there are enough fiber optic plugs. different connections too. the one that i removed from my cd changer doesn't fit into any of the plugs provided.
about the wires, do you just disconnect the wires from the cd changer all together and not have them connected to the cd changer? if i do disconnect the wires from the cd changer, why would i need to have the fiber optic plugs connected to the cd changer?

I just realized you have a 2003.. does the optical connector have one red and one clear end on it.. I believe your car is D2B which means the kit you have is not going to work. You need the D2B kit.

Yeah, what Rob said - he beat me to it. Unless you have the Denison D2B kit, you are going to have problems. The D2B fiber ends are physically different from the MOST, and both speak completely different "languages".
Denison do make a D2B kit for your car - their model number is GW51D2B.
The third wire (blue) is the D2B wakeup signal, and you will need it. When you end up with the right kit, you can get the power socket and pins from MB for about $10usd so that you do not have to cut any wires.
Part number for the Connector Socket to plug into the changer supply is A 030 545 59 28, and the pins (you will need 3) A 032 545 39 28. I paid like 6 GBP for 2 sockets and 6 pins.
so i have a 2003 mercedes c240 and just bought the dension gateway 500.
i would like to know how to install this product. i do have a cd changer in the glove department.
thanks in advance.

I've done this install a couple of times. It's really not all that hard.
You of course did get the instructions from Densions right?
First check the toggle switch config for Mercedes
Remove the disk changer from the glove box, it should be secured by one screw on the right side.
Drop the underside panel below the glove box.
Now for the fun part, you know need to connect the fiber optics to the most system. If you don't mind loosing the disk changer (and you are installing for a ipod so why not) then all you have to do is to drop the fiber optics and the wireing for the cd changer down below the glove box. it can seem kind of tricky but it can be done. The glove box can be easily pulled if you like.
Connect the power and ground with the power wires from the disk changer, and if loosing the disk changer then again just plug the most in and that part is all done.
Take the ipod cables and the usb cables and run them through were the disk changer cables were in the glove box. (usually I take an expra piece of wire and connect it with the disk changer cable cables and let that go down with them. That way I have something to pull these through with.)
Mound or not the brackets they give you for the usb and the ipod in the glove box, that is your choice.
Now the black box with the rca connections you can also put in the glove box, or mount it under dash some place. If under dash then I usually like to put it someplace far back were it is not to noticable but still can be easily gotten to when needed.
Next plug everything in to the main junctiion box. There are 2 spots for the ipod cable to plug in, and i think you want the one on the inside.
Tie wrap everything together nice and neat, and find some place under dash were you can easily place the unit. There should be room enough on the passenger side to hide the junction box.
Then put everything back together, and you should be done.
Once all done I like to do a software update to it. That to is easy enough to do.
Get the software from Dension, either put it on your ipod or a memory stick. If on your ipod then what you will do is plug the ipod into the usb port using your ipod cable for the computer. wait about 2 minutes and that should be done.
If the C240 has a screen then you should be able to get text.
Good luck and keep the phone number available for Densions tech support, they "sometimes" can be helpfull with what you are doing. My only problem with them is they are on the east coast in Canada, and I'm in California.
