Connecting Alpine CHM-S611 Disc Changer to Alpine CDA-9856 Head Unit

Hi Guys!

I was wondering if anyone has any experience in connecting the old 6 disc CHM-S611 to a newer Alpine head unit? The reason I am asking is that I bought this vehicle used and it has a beautiful Head Unit in it but the Disc changer is not connected to it. Do I need a special adapter or anything? The book for the head unit does not specify the CHM-S611 as a model that is compatible. But that does not mean it won't work!

Here is to hoping!

Thanks!

Drew

I'm interested in getting info on the S611 as well. It came installed in my 99 S320 but the cable is disconnected. Sure would like some technical info on the digital message structure so I can troubleshoot if needed.

Can't be done. You cannot add an MBUS changer to an Ai-Net headunit because it cannot control the changer. However, the opposite is possible by adding a KCA-130B Ai-Net adapter to a MBUS headunit.

Although not currently available except perhaps on eBay, the only other option is an Alpine RF CD changer controller (can't remember model) that plays back through the FM band. These work fairly well as unlike modulators that transmit to the antenna, these go in-line with the antenna connector and have a pre-emphasis adjustment to compensate for high frequency loss. However, control of the changer is accomplished through a control panel included with the kit, so still no direct control from the Ai-Net headunit.

Hope this helps...
