Well today I finally purchased online an awesome car stereo with DVD and navigational system. I知 thinking about installing it myself but wanted to hear any best practices or any problems that my arise doing so. I want to use the factory amps and I知 also thinking about using the current steering volume controls. I was also wondering about any harnesses. I heard the VW wiring harness will do the job. I have a 2000 E55 with the Bose radio. Thanks

Yep. According to Cruthfield it fits without any tools. I guess my main concern is finding where the VSS cables. I heard it's the yellow cable from the radio harness that automatic adjusts the stereo volume when driving.
I don't think lkchris meant only mechanical compatibility, but your car seems to be a W210, then it could have a VSS signal instead of having that from the CAN bus.
What a crazy week. I just got my new stereo installed and guess what? They told me that my car needs a speed pulse generator or some other device that can translate the information from my VSS to my car stereo. I went to a second establishment and the guy told that there should be no problem but later found that what the first installer told me was true. Both tried connecting VSS through the doorsill and from the wiring harness. The second installer told that since my car doesn稚 come with a navigational system that痴 the reason why they are not able to just tap into the VSS.
I wanted to know anybody has experienced a similar problem? The first installer recommended some product made by Soundgate. That should run me about $500. I was thinking of just getting a speed pulse generator.
