This is one of those sites you need a couple of weeks just to go through, congratulations to the owners
Although I have tried to do that, the fact is that I can not see any info on how to upgrade the operating system on the navi, or how to upgrade the maps.
The vehicle is a 2003 w203 estate C200CDi with 122 PS (I think)
Should try a bit harder, there are multiple threads on the latest navi DVD etc. here and on car specific subforums.
Also you should be able to find the instructions from your Navi manual. In any case, go to your dealer and buy a new DVD or a set of CDs if your navi is CD based and follow the instructions on the box. This is usually a map update, may include a device update.
There are also separate service SW discs, multiple threads on that too.
The question is since it came from germany, all manuals are in german, which I don't understand.
Is there any way to know what exactly do I have?
I noticed it's a command system with the big screen. But I have no idea how to check versions...
This site would have a lot of Comand APS related info, including different versions of discs with part numbers for this and other cars. You can eject the current disc and see version info/part number to see what you have now. Mercedes Electronics upgrades, installation and retrofits
Your car VIN would tell all the equipment it has, from factory. Some don't want to post the VIN, the Russian site would do it in privacy (perhaps ) but it does not cover all cars, a 2003 likely though. Mercedes-Benz Club Russia | Mercedes-Benz / VIN
I believe there is an online manual for the S203 still at Mercedes-Benz Deutschland (until the S204 is released), in English. Could apply mostly to your car, but it unlikely covers Comand APS.
It has a command unit dunno if 2.0 or 2.5, and the navi cd (it's a cd) is from teleatlas travelpilot 2003/2004 dx (Q4 ?). It has a number in it, 200 5056.
I can't seem to find another way to identify the hardware in order to upgrade it, or the hardware's operating system version, or the navi maps version.

Richard's site should have info on reading the SW status but it also has info on purchasing new navi map CDs. Sounds like you would need a navi map update, if there are other issues, then you could ask your dealer update the Comand SW.
Map discs are on sale at eBay too, just have to be careful that you don't get a copy, a copy may even work but is always hard to read for the changer and may make it fail early.
Ok, so I got to Richard's site (very good), but still I'm not able to identify what I have, what I'll need, and how...
What I want is a more complete navi map. For that, I believe I must identify what I have...
Maybe if I post some pictures, you could help better?
This is my command unit
and all the pages and sub-pages I can get. What do I do with it?
Over the last days, I burnt more than 30 cd's to whatever program (Nero, Imgburn, Clone cd, Alcohol...) in all the different ways (mode 2 form1, mode 1, mode XA...) at a 1x speed and nothing seems to work. Have I got a Knackered unit (Comand 2.0 APS DX)???
You did not say why you didn't want to visit the dealer's parts guy? Portugal would have plenty of those. If you want something free, you may get something where the quality reflects the price, although it did not appear to be completely free this time, not to mention the time wasted. The Navi drive may not work on copy CDs and copy CDs would not be good for it anyway. The CD media at least needs to be excellent quality.
I thought you had an MB original CD, just that it was outdated. Was your CD drive able to read that?
