bertaux,
Please do try Jayhawk's suggestion for getting discs (and please let us know how that works out). I do know that Navteq no longer lists the "C" nav version discs on its site, but a live person may be able to help. If unsuccessful getting "C" nav discs, here are some other choices.
First: If you buy a replacement COMAND unit be careful - especially on ebay. Some units are faulty, and all are sold "as is". You may not be able to return it if it won't work.
One option is to replace with a Euro spec COMAND 2.5 (which may be activated for DVD video). Problems with replacement with a Euro spec unit: In your '00 W220, the steering wheel buttons won't control it (this is not a problem with '01 and later W220s); and European radio tuning is different. The best source of information on Euro spec retrofits is Steve Krabbenborg,
Steve@MBENZNL.com; or his sister, Wanda (Big Sis). They have already provided a great deal of information here and on MBWorld on such retrofits; a search will turn it up. Steve is from the Netherlands, and makes periodic trips to the U.S. for many types of upgrades, and mostly gets rave reviews.
A second alternative is to upgrade to a U.S. specification widescreen COMAND MOPF unit from the '03 model year. It is also a D2b fiber optics unit with CD-based "D" nav, and your steering wheel buttons and radio tuning would be fine. You would need to add an audio gateway, and order the 2-piece wood fascia, but folks have done it. The best source of information about that upgrade is Sunil Patel,
sunil@mwhouston.com. His screen name was formerly sunman (many postings still shown under that name), but he has changed it to sunil @ motorwerks; he is a forum sponsor on MBWorld. Sunil has undertaken some very extensive retrofits, including swapping out the entire D2b fiber optic bus and associated equipment for MOST bus in several types of Mercedes - very expensive, impractical for most folks - but demonstrating a great deal of expertise.
A third alternative would be to install a U.S. spec COMAND 2.5 with "D" nav from the '00 through '02 model year. That would be virtually plug 'n play, and uses the CDs you ordered.
Upgrading to a DVD Nav-based COMAND 2.0 unit ('04 and on) is not realistically affordable; they are MOST fiber optics units, not compatible with the D2b fiber optics bus in your car. It is literally less expensive to buy a newer car.
Personally, I would choose to stay with the U.S. spec units unless you simply must have DVD video capability (though why one must have it in view of the driver remains a mystery). There is just less to have to adapt to.
