New Member GL320 Navigation question

Good Morning I am a new member and a new owner of a full loaded GL320 CDI Black on macadamia. This is our new family car replacing a Land Rover LR3 HSE. ( what a piece of _ _ _ _) So needless to say the GL is a great replacement.

There is one issue that is killing me: The Navigation is awful! The graphics,POIs etc. The Land Rover nav was much better. I drive a 2003 BMW m5 as my daily driver. I was able to update the firmware (from a BMW forum site) making the graphics much better, the roads much smoother the nav logic better and faster.
members have also written software to modify the voices, poi icons and splash screens. Here is the link for reference of what I am talking about:

It seems to me that the graphics issue is not a resolution issue (road lines look like large dpi pixels) with the screen because the backup camera gives a TV like picture.

I know I just bought a 2007 with "updated" firmware. Is it possible to upgrade to the new S-class software? I have heard it is better.

Maybe Apple corp. will give us the chance to update when they finish their development for MB nav.

I did not read these links carefully but to me it looked like the BMW is a lot better than the MB if you do a lot of tweaking yourself? It isn't too bad if the system was more open than the MB one, to allow personalisation, specifically adding own POI data. Still I would assume most car owners using their navi as it comes from the factory and not having the time and interest to make it what they prefer.

I have not seen the W221 navi modified, the data seems encrypted unlike the BMW one and nobody has indicated being able to break the protection.

Thanks for the reply. I would agree that most users not have any interest in modding the nav. I was one of those until i saw how much better it was. I love the GL320 and dont even look at the map unless under guidence to avoid frustration. I guess you cant have it all. The GL was far better than anything out there-including the x5. The x5 is a better driver's SUV but the GL more than makes up for it as a whole package.
