this is for a 2000 e320. i just got this in the mail today, its a jvc kd-ar5000. trying to figure out how to hook it up. i will use wire taps to connect the wires. i did search the forums, there had been numerous post by Firefox and No Clue on this subject. but i still need some more specific answers.
is it true to use the line out rca speaker line outs instead of the speaker wire outputs? if i do use the rca line outs to connect to the speaker wires on the car i dont need to use a line level converter like scorche or sven2.
there is an option in this jvc that turns the buit in amp. off and sound output only through the line out. this will definitely make the unit run alot cooler not using the internal amp.
i still have to figure out the rest of the connections... looking at the wire diagram i am still stump with which to connect.
aftermarket harness to factory harness:
1. black (to metallic body or chasis of car): this goes to A8 on the becker diagram
2. yellow (to a live terminal in the fuse block connecting to the car battery): this goes to A4 i believe
3. red (to an accessory terminal in the fuse block): i think this is the ignition power switch, can connect to the cigarette lighter power line.
4. blue with white stripe (to the remote lead of other equipment 200 mA max.): this will turn on the amp? i am not sure or where do i connect this to? Should i connect this to A5?
5. blue (to automatic antenna if any 250 mA max.): this goes to A5 on the diagram.
6. orange with white stripe (illumination): firefox stated this can be hook up to one of the wires on the cigarette lighter
You don't actually state which head unit your car originally had but I assume it at least has the connectors as in the figure.
I interpret your car does not have a separate audio power amplifier and then you should connect the speaker output against the advice in the figure text.
You seem to have figured right the switched and continuous power and ground. I believe the illumination suggestion from firefox was to connect to the illumination bulb, positive wire at the cigarette lighter (as opposed to the switched power wire).
If you don't have a power amplifier, you don't need the drive line from the new unit. But you would need to connect the antenna amplifier supply/control line.
By the way, what was wrong with the original unit? Did you put preference on MP3 against steering wheel control/instrument cluster display?
the head unit is a JVC kd-ar5000. i have a bose system, i thought they all had bose amps which i am not sure.
my cd changer is out of wack, so i need someting that works and fit well with the car, this has the black finish and can match the orange night illumination of the becker head unit. plus can play mp3's with touch screen which is pretty cool. thanks for your inputs.

OK, if you have a Bose system, you must have a separate amplifier too. I'm not familiar with the Bose set-up. It could actually take the fiber output from the OEM radio. Better to wait for comments from members familiar with the Bose system.
