Your tech. is right, there is way too much "black magic" with which adapter works with each phone. I went crazy buying and trying the different adapters with my phone. " See my post above" I am very happy with the viseeo MB2 adapter, it works great. pairs quickly, downloads the phone book completely.
I have just purchased a 2003 SL500. The MB technician i had check out the car said it has a V60 cradle in it - and all I need to do is add the "puck". So I go to buy the puck from the parts department.... to be told by the Parts guy - "this only works on a few phones... don't know if it will with yours".
I have a Blackberry Curve (8310 - ATT carrier).
In reading through a lot here... I THINK that maybe this should work the way the tech said.... Am I missing anything here? It sounds too easy... my daily driver car ('97 BMW 740iL) took a bunch of rewiring to pull this off with integration into the auto... and about $1000... (but then again - did that about 4 years ago... things probably easier now)...
My first post - and first day owning car... be gentle
Thanks,
Dahr
Welcome to the forum. You are wise to ask first, before spending a bunch of money.
Compatibility issues and a link for determining compatibility of specific phones and carrier firmware is at permalink #6 on the first page of this string. There is a Blackberry Curve with AT&T firmware that is listed as compatible, but you will have to check your phone to see that it has that firmware. Your phone's instruction booklet should tell you how to do that.
In any case, you will be able pair, and to make and receive calls; the rest of the compatibility issues have to do with phone book downloads. If your phone's firmware is the version listed in the link, you will have full compatibility. If not, the best way to determine how tother firmware will work is to search the forum (not just this string) for individual user experience with a particular phone and Bluetooth puck. Firmware versions newer than the listed version may work fine, and it may not - so if you have the compatible firmware, don't automatically upgrade to the latest version. If your phone's firmware is an older version that the one listed, your carrier can upgrade it easily (Verizon, for example, provides such upgrades over the phone).
What I can say is that since the newer pucks came out well over a year ago, many more phones are compatible. Certain carriers (Sprint in particular) still implement their firmware in a manner that creates problems, and Mercedes is not alone in experiencing them.

Skylaw & philip... Thank you so much for the replies...
I have a couple follow up questions hopefully you, or someone else can answer.
1) The Viseeo MB2 adapter - i'm reading that it fits 2004 on - "and some 2003".. My 2003 SL500 with the V60 cradle - is it compatible? (It seems like I read that the Viseeo is going to provide better sound quality and a few more features...)
2) Am I able, without a lot of work, able to utilize the SAP Version 3 cradle (and is there any advantage to this?)
3) has anybody utilitzed the "smooth talker" with the blackberry, in conjunction with a bluetooth option, in a R230 (SL 500/550/etc.) - and fit it within the console so it's not cluttered up?
I am trying to find a solution for my 300 SL from 1993, which has what I believe to be a MB analog phone installed. Obviously not supported by any operator. I want to do something very simple (I think) : find a way to use the preinstalled mike and loudspeakers so I can make hand free calls safely, also using the antenna from the car for better reception. Any idea where I could find an answer to this ? I appreciate your guidance, thanks.
Philippe
Your car is copper wired; the systems with which I am most familiar are fiber optics based.
You may be able to retrofit something like a Kenwood, Pioneer Avic, or Alpine combination nav, DVD, radio, and Bluetooth head unit that would give your car virtually the same capabilities as the newest COMAND units. Some of these units sell for as little as $500, and some for over $1600. There are also separate units that pick up and amplify your cell phone's transmissions and send them out over the car's antenna or an independent external antenna.
If you only want Bluetooth capability, then a 3rd party unit available through many cell carriers would be your best option. They are usually under $200, but they have separate microphones and speakers, and are not particularly integrated with the rest of the audio system.

It is not a cradle but an adapter to make the command system work with blue tooth.
