The link to Paul Dick's site, and the individual links to bulletins, work fine for me. Phone Bulletins

How-To Guide Update April 2008

I have updated this post as of late April 2008 to account for new equipment such as the "Universal PSE" and the "Cradle eliminator" cable that will aid owners of 2000-2003 models in equipping their cars for the many new state "hands free" laws. The new equipment will eliminate the need to find older equipment such as "Autosense" PSEs and V60 cradles, which are sometimes in short supply. I thank the contributors who took the time to bring these new devices to my attention.

I have also provided more detailed information for owners, particularly of '00-'04 models, to assist in retrofitting. One can rely more on the guide than on the phone bulletins, though the guides are still vital for showing where equipment is.

Just wanted to let everyone know I've tried to get my SAP (B67875839) to work with a Sony Ericsson W880i and a Nokia 6230i with limited success. Making calls works flawlessly and sometime lost calls are displayed, but the phonebook feature doesn't work at all. Fortunately my Samsung X830 works perfectly : )

Puck Memory?

Just installed a bluetooth puck in place of my V60 phone in my 03' SL500. I got the phone to pair up, dial and recieve calls. Can't transfer the phone book either because it just won't happen with my "unapproved" phone or manually enter a phone number in memory. I get a message "memory process not possible" Does the puck not store the numbers or are they stored elseware? When I first removed the phone and place the puck in, there were some entries I could recall by voice command. These were the same that were always in the car and had nothing to do with the puck. Any help appreciated. Nothing found on my search terms. My phone is a samsung i760.
Thanks

V60 Puck

I don't think your Samsung phone will load?, from my understanding only the approved phones will work the way your old V60 did before you installed the Puck. I installed the Puck in my ML55 and I'm using a Mercedes Benz V710 phone that I purchased off EBAY, all my phone numbers loaded when I paired with the Puck. You can check with mbwireless to make sure.

Skylaw,
I have been reading your forum for a while. Very nice. Last year 8/2007 I bought a MIKBOX to retrofit my E320/2001 W210.265 Time port/Command into GSM V551. Car ordered from dealer with phone command system. I was forced to upgrade dumped by TDMA. MIKBOX ($256),V500Cradle($99),V551 phone($60,Ebay new) Works perfect except no last incoming call list due to Mik box software limitation. My next project need your advise, S500,MY2000, comes with StarTec upgarded 2003 by dealer to V60i $1600. Now I know I can change over to V60 Puck and done. But I am using a HP ipaq HW6515a ,PDA and will be incompatible with JETware. What chance I can use HP with the new version of PUCK ? I like to keep the PDA because it has been unlocked by Cingular for global local SIM card. I am not a phone crazy. Only replace phone when it is useless. Same case with V60i system because TDMA obsoleted. I hate to lost the function of the phone system in the S500 and do not want to paid extra line to AT&T. My ipaq works with my 06 Porsche because I order car with phone solution from factory. A hand set is build in to the car only SIM card is needed to operate the system. I only drive about 6k miles in the S500 and the car still like new at 73K. But the C2S is my favorite, which I will use 15K/yr. I do not use phone a lot when drive but I hate to lost that convenience. Do you have any good suggestions to upgrade my V60 system to use any good PDA ? This is very important for me to keep in touch with wall street quotes. I have finished the PDA contract with AT&T because I have been with them for over 2 years on the PDA and actually, i was with them since 1984, the first generation cell phone for $2100. The problem is not to buy new PDA but how to integrate a new PDA with an upgraded V60i.

diasound,

I tried to address this a bit in the fourth paragraph of the first post in this string. I own one Mercedes, and two cell phones. I have installed the MikBox in my '00 (now sold) and I currently use a plug-in V710 phone (because in my house, it has better range than my RAZR V3). My Bluetooth/RAZR combo cradle and the RAZR sit in a closet.

While I have learned the function of the MB phone systems, I cannot and do not get into the details of testing every kind of phone or PDA. For that I rely on AWS, which does test various equipment and software for compatibility. They're in the business - I am not. Perhaps, however, another contributor can help - you might get more attention to the matter if you ask it in a new thread.

The V60 upgrade is as far as your car can be brought using MB equipment. If you have the most recent (Version 2) V60 Bluetooth puck, I cannot offer further suggestions.

I'm sorry, I cannot help with question of making your PDA work with the system by making changes to the MB system. Your best bet, though contrary to your desires, may be to find a compatible PDA, with compatible firmware. If the choices offered by AWS are too limiting, individual contributors have posted their experience with other equipment. Some contributors have noted success with features of various PDAs, especially those listed as compatible by AWS. I suggest the search tool on this forum and on MBWorld, and also perhaps browsing Howard Forums (a treasure trove of cell phone and PDA information).

Some folks report that the Argos unit from EuroCarPhone has compatibility with a wider variety of phones. I have no experience with this unit. Its literature indicates that both D2B versions (which you would need) and MOST versions are available (including a MOST version for cars with premium sound systems). That unit replaces the PSE and Bluetooth puck for which you have already spent considerable money; it's about $800 to purchase, plus installation.

Skylaw,
In your behavior, after $ spend on BT, it tells me the docking unit is better because of signal strength. This exactly I experience in last 24 years of using handset. BT only good for hand free purpose. It dose not give you the signal, the first priority of all. For now, it is best for me to retrofit with MIK BOX like my E320 with V551. most economical decision. Put the PDA SIM into V551 if I am going to drive for a while. Or just use my PDA to answer call for trip less than 15 minutes. BT interface only good for driver do not have docking device already installed in their car and excellent for phone upgrade. New PDA has multi-functions, but you can only use the basic phone function while you were driving. In the future, I think MB should plan to have BT in every car and also docking device with universal plugs and add-ons so most PDAs can be docked if desired. That will be the perfect improvement.

Antenna question

Hello Skylaw,

running my 04 G500 now for long time with the V60 puck and have no problems - thanks to your help and precise postings.

I have now purchased a cradle for my Razor V3 phone to charge it while in the G and connected via Bluetooth.

The new cradle also feature an antenna connection which I use with a removable magnetic external antenna - same as for my broadband card (laptop navigation)

Now my questions: the old V60 cradle with the Bluetooth puck has also an antenna connection which is connected to the vehicles's harness. Could I use this harness/antenna connection for my new V3 cradle (to use the built in antenna) as the old V60 cradle/puck doesn't need that antenna connection? What is that original MB connector called - so I can make a correct adapter?

Thanks,

Karl

Karl,

My best guess is that virtually antenna connection to the phone would work, if you can find an appropriate adapter to the car's system.

My larger concern is what cradle you have for your RAZR. SmoothTalker makes a number of cradles that do no more than 1) hold the phone, 2) charge the phone, and 3) connect the phone to an external antenna. They provide no Bluetooth capability.

If you are using such a cradle, you still need a Bluetooth puck. To eliminate the V60 cradle and still use the V60 puck, you could purchase the new Cradle Eliminator (a cable that connects the BT puck to the phone system), and use it together with something like the SmoothTalker cradle.

If you have purchased a RAZR Bluetooth/Cradle combination unit, it works only with MHI-equipped cars. Yours is not MHI-equipped, and the combo cradle has no way to connect to it.
