We just bought an 06 ML350 and I want to keep updated on the entries in this thread. Is there a simple way to integrate my wife's Razer to the D2B Bluetooth in this vehicle?

Getting older isn't so bad when you consider the alternative ....
The dealer was describing the MHI phone system, which is quite flexible. If the "bump" (called the MHI contact plate) is present in the phone compartment in your console, he is correct. The MHI system provides the owner with a choice of cradles or Bluetooth pucks, which must be purchased separately, to complete the system. Each of these would slide onto the "bump."
See permalink #5 toward the top of this string - the cradle options are explained there. Use the phone bulletin for an '05 - your '06 setup is identical - to verify what the MHI contact plate should look like.
Before you buy a cell phone, check permalink #6 as well.
the MHI system was not in the car. hence my confusion about "on board hands free communication system" on the vehicle equipment invoice and other vague terminology like "pre wired". "on board" gives the distinct
impression it exists in the car.....go figure. it seems I either can buy several MBZ parts to retrofit MHI + wiring or use existing MOST system with a BT system. the car was not "pre wired" as the sales literature suggests. I have been all over the links and was about to go mObridge BT which bypasses the MHI system. thank you for your response and I will check permalink 6 next.

Did you check with the AWS website mentioned in the initial series of posts??

Skylaw, awesome amount of great information. Thank you very much for all your hard work and research.
Keep in mind I'm hung like Einstein, smart as a horse........ so....... no phone, plate, cradle etc. installed in the car.
Comand w/nav, I assume it's "pre-wired". Quick question...... will the "puck w/tail" work, installed in the fiber optic whatever in the back or do I need to get the rest of parts to make the bt work in the car?
Your '06 wagon will be very much like the '05. Take a look at the phone bulletin (Phone Bulletins) for the '05, Figures 26 and 36. If your console looks like Fig. 26, you have no phone equipment. If it looks like Fig. 36, you do.
Unfortunately, for the '06 model year MB started deleting the full wiring harness for cars ordered without a phone system ("prewiring") and started offering it as an option. Your car's list of equipment may show an option code saying something like "prewiring for handsfree" or something to that effect - if so, your car has it. One way to tell if you have prewiring is to open up the console and look under the false floor; if the connectors A & B shown in Figs. 33, 34 are present, you have it.
The other way is to look for the various connectors described at Figs. 1 through 3 of the phone bulletin - they would be under the floor, behind the back seat, if present.
If you do not have the prewiring, it will be necessary to install it before you can hook up an MB phone system. $$$. If you do have it, it's a matter of ordering the parts at the end of the phone bulletin (voice control is not required, but it's a nice option). But it doesn't stop there. Once you have brought the car up to the configuration shown in the phone bulletin, you need either a Bluetooth puck, a cradle for a plug-in phone, or a combo Bluetooth/charging cradle for some Bluetooth phones. It all depends on which phone you want to use (the MHI phone system for your car was designed to provide flexibility in that area). The AWS site mentioned has pages explaining those options.
If you are going to use Bluetooth exclusively and are located in a strong signal area, it is not necessary to install the antenna switch or the linear compensator shown in the phone bulletin. Note also that if you are using a RAZR handset, it has a very weak internal antenna, and you'd want to use it in a combo RAZR/Bluetooth cradle, and install the antenna switch and linear compensator in order to use the car's built-in external antenna for better connectivity.
If you do not have prewiring, it may be better for you to consider adding something like the Dension Gateway 500, which is an iPod integration device - but it also has a Bluetooth module as an option. That route could save you a LOT of money, especially if you do not have prewiring. The phone integration would not be as complete as the MB system, but it is workable. www.dension.com. mObridge and InCarTronics provide other devices that integrate iPods and cell phones - I have no experience with the latter two, but I love the Gateway 500 iPod setup in my car. See http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audi...ady-prime.html - I have an MB phone system, so did not use the GW 500 cell phone add-on for my setup.
I'm still laughing over your "Einstein" observation.
Skylaw,
Thanks for so much for the welcome and so much detailed information.
My car has to two little buttons with the icons on them in the armrest/ console and they work...... I inadvertently pushed it and it called out............... remember.............. Einstein/horse????? So I'll try to pull the false bottom off and see where that goes.
The two buttons are for Tele-Aid, a subscription emergency and (if you want) concierge service. The handsfree (cell) phone system is separate from Tele-Aid.
I just bought a new 2008 CLS63 and installed the MHI Bluetooth adapter in the armrest. My Blackberry 8100 Curve paired perfectly, but my phonebook will not load, no matter what. I even created a hotlist with only 10 entries and that won't load either. I know the phone is on the approved list, and is running the correct software. I've tried most of the tricks proposed by others, but nothing works.
I have two questions:
(1) is it possible that Blackberry has a block on phone book transfers, and if so, is there a work-around?
(2) If i just want to create a simple address book for the COMAND in my car (and not use my Blackberry's list), can I do so?
