I really like the functionality and level of Ipod integration that MB offers in their vehicles, but I'm concerned about compatibility with newer Ipod models. All the press releases and FAQs I've read, mention compatibility with older models such as Ipod Photo and Ipod Mini, that are not even sold anymore.
What about 1st and 2nd gen Ipod Nano that are being sold now? What about the latest 'big' Ipod models? has anyone had a chance to use one of these in their MB?

There's no diference.. if anything, the newer units work better...Especially the inexpensive Nano for those who only have a limited library.

The reason for my concern is that I've read somewhere (might be this forum, actually) that there can be some kind of problem with Ipod Video, where the sound system in the car would play a loud crackling noise the moment you switch it over to Ipod input, and that the only way to solve that was to buy old Ipods. Then again, this was apparently on 2005 or 2006 MB cars, so I don't know if they have improved the integration kit in the meantime.

I read the thread.. but i have never had that problem either... I wouldn't let that deter me from getting the kit.. FI you have a problem, just return the IpOD and get an older one. that's the safer risk because they are returnable....But I don;t think you will need to.
BTW What vehicle do you have? I have and IPOD kit for the W211 for sale.

Yeah, you have a point there. Hopefully there won't be any problems.
I have just got a 2007 B200 (I live in Canada). That's designation W245, right? I'm really quite amazed at the quality of the car and the amount of thought that went into it's engineering and design, in everything from safety features to spaciousness to segmented sunroof.
I've heard that the ipod integration does not allow for a sound volume as high as that of CD player, which is fine by me (unless the difference in volume is huge?). However, do I still get to control the bass/treble on the central console, or are those controls disabled in Ipod mode, and everything needs to be done through steering wheel controls?
I just installed the IPOD kit in my ML63. Does anyone know that if the IPOD is in shuffle mode and the song title is showing in the instrument cluster, is there a way to readily see the artist? It seems that only the song title appears on the cluster. Thanks.
I can now confirm that the integration kit works perfectly with newest Ipod Nano.

I don't think there's a way to see the artists or anything other than a song name once the playback starts - be it the shuffle mode, or regular playlist mode.
That is correct. It would seem that step was overlooked in the design. It is frustrating and sometimes like "name that tune." Oh well...it's still a great product.
