Factory installed phone, Lost the phone!

Please help!! Regarding my in car phone.
I have a 04 CLK 500 with the factory installed phone system. The Motorola V60 hand set has been lost. I found a phone on ebay advertised as a Mercedes Benz Motorola V60 that worked fine in the car until I got the PRL codes updated. They overwrote the Benz software. After waiting 2 ½ months to get my phone back from Benz they tell me they won’t reinstall the software because it is not a Benz phone.

What are my options now?
Is there any grey market software I can use? Is there some where I can get the phone reprogrammed? Benz wants $600 plus for a refurbished Motorola V60.

Would the Mikbox or some other aftermarket product be a viable solution? After dealing with Benz on this issue I would prefer to deal with an aftermarket solution if possible!

I am new to this, too. But I think the mikbox would be a ver good solution. You're looking at the price of the mikbox and your mounting hardware - either way it would be less than a "new" Mercedes phone.

I will be doing a MikBox as soon as one is available for older motorola (nextel) phones (i90, etc)

RE: Factory installed phone, Lost the phone!

You might also check out Nevada Jack's recent installation of a cradle that is compatible with a number of phones. I don't know if AWS has this for your '04, but you can contact them. See the thread at http://forums.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?postid=1442548#post1442548

The cradle may be for MHI systems; if so, the MikBox is a great alternative and very easy to install. See mine in an '00 S500 at http://forums.mbnz.org/publications/pub.asp?id=317

RE: Factory installed phone, Lost the phone!

Keep looking on Ebay. I had 2 v6o's that came with my G500 but had the wrong carrier. I found a V60X (Sprint) on Ebay.

Try wireless4mb bluetooth puck

I have a 2002 e class and just got the bluetooth puck from my MB dealer. This will permit you to use a bluetooth phone instead of a out of date V60. You may have a problem with the cellular carrier activating an old V60 since it does not have GPS capabilities. I may be wrong on this but I do not think they are supposed to do that any longer. Therefore I would be very concerned about getting a used MB V60 off ebay. It is for this reason I have not bothered posting my 2 V60's to ebay. So go to www.wireless4mb.com check the compatibility and get the proper product, from them ,the dealer, or ebay. I did not get a phone from them and have tested 3 different phones so far without any problems. Eveny if you got the phone and puck from them it would still only cost about the same as the MB dealer wants for a tired old V60.

Thats the beauty of using a Siemens hand phone with Euro model E280. The phone that came from the factorywith the car is a Siemens SP65, (S65 version but no camera and MB software for the phone). But I as well, being an ex Siemens Indonesia employee have a S65 (S version with camera) with the normail software sold with the phone and I also have Siemens M65 and S75 hand phones, all of which do not have the MB software but will also fit the factory car kit and work in the car as well. My wife and I had Motorola Razors whent hry first came out here a couple of years ago but although very stylish and thin, they had numberous software bugs and if you wanted firmware updates you had to go to the Motorola shop and they install it for a fee. Where as with Siemens hand phones they have a website you can download and install the latest versions of firmware.

Considering Siemens phones, one perhaps should note that BenQ acquired their cell phone business and just recently the cell phone division of the new company went belly up.

Considering Euro MBs, I doubt Siemens ever had any MB specific SW, all the phones I have used on an Euro MB car have had a standard SW, meaning any phone (unit) from any shop would work, as long as it is the correct model type supported by the car system. This should be why you were able to use those different Siemens models that had the same cradle interface.

Does not surprise me about the belly up of the new company, Siemens paid BenQ Euro 500 million to take the Siemens handphone division in to BenQ and the Germans and thier expensive pay & pension packages along with it.

As for the SW, Yes & No. On my M65, S65 and S75 I downloaded the latest firmware for those phones for the SP65 it had a special MB variant software that specifically was for MB/Siemens phones but as I said they all work in the same cradle.

Obviously I did not know this, always good to learn, thanks for the info. From the user perspective this confirms the "European" advantage that one does not need to buy any MB specific phone.
