Hi, i'm a new owner (well its my wifes car) of a 2003 S430. She wants a phone installed in the car with the ability to talk hands/headset free and use the controls on the steering wheel and Nav. She also wants to be able to talk using a blue tooth head set if other people are in the car.
I'm not sure where to start with this or what I need. She is changing jobs and will be changing cell phone providers. So she figures she will just pic a phone/provider that will be compatable with the cars system.
FYI for anyone who can help, I just check the original sticker for the car says it it is pr wired for phone and voice control.
then the official MB kit which will come out may be just what you need.
have a look here...

ianx, As you being a moderator, I am suggesting that the bluetooth thread on R171 should be made as a sticky in Audio & Telematics forum. Thread created by you in R171 is the only thread with complete information and pics. There are hundred of questions posted related to Bluetooth again and again in all fourms. IMHO

I can certainly move it, but i can't sticky it. I don't have that privilege for this forum.
If the forum host drops me line i'll do the necessary!
ianx has provided a valid suggestion; however, if your car is simply prewired and has never had a phone, you will have to equip it with a PSE, a Y-cable, a cradle, and possibly a dual-band linear compensator (for the car's antenna). You can check the equipment that would be installed if the car had been ordered with a phone in the phone bulletins on Paul' site at http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsite/phone_bulletins.htm
With that equipment, you could follow the path suggested by ianx, or use a MikBox; you can see my installation of a MikBox in a '00 S500 at http://forums.mbnz.org/publications/pub.asp?id=317 Your car's electronics mounting will be slightly different from mine, but the phone bulletin should get you through the differences.
With the MikBox, you should order the phone cradle from MIK; he provides it with the RJ-48 and antenna connector you need.
The MikBox (right now) requires Motorola phones that can be plugged into a cradle. However, you should still be able to use the phone with a Bluetooth headset if you buy one that is BT enabled, and has (at minimum) the Headset protocol enabled. Even the original Verizon V710 (and the 815) have this. So, the MikBox remains an option for you.

Thanks for the info Skylaw. That clears it up a bit for me. I guess I need to determine what exactly I have in the car first...then go from there. I'm taking it in on Thur for service. I'll see if I can get them to tell me what I have already pre installed.
firstmb - I just clicked the link on your post, and got the site. There may have been a server or other network problem. Try again - if it won't work, try copying the link and pasting it into the browser window. Or, go to my writeup (the other link) - there's a link to it there.
