Sirius

Hello,
Can you add Sirius after you pick up the car. The 06 ML350 I just ordered does not have Sirius, but may want to add it in the future. From what I can tell, there is a button for Sirius (sat) on the unit. Is this something I can add at a later date if i wish?
If so, do I have to do it through MB?

RE: Sirius

Yes you can add Sirius after you get the car. You don't have to do it through MB. However, if you want your Sirius to integrate into your nice factory COMAND unit than I beleive you DO have to do it through MB. I have seen lots of pictures of people's cars where they have done after-market (i.e. non-MB) installs, and I personally would not be happy with the way those look.

Getting the install through MB will result in the addiion of a new (some people think ugly) antenna on the outside of the car. On my E500, this would be right in the middle of the trunk deck lid, a location that I am not thrilled with.

On an ML, I am not sure where they would put it, although I think that the antenna (which is plack and about the size of a computer mouse) would look fine installed on the roof of the 2006 ML vehicles. From what I understand, Sirius antennas are picky and need to be mounted in a certain way where they have a certain view of the sky. You can't just stick them where you think it looks best on the car. I would make certain that you lnow where this antenna is going to go, and that you like how it will look, before the drill the hole in your car and stick it on there.

IMHO the MB installation...that integrates perfectly with the existing COMAND system....is a superior option to an aftermarket non-MB installation.

RE: Sirius

Hi Mike,

You get this directly through your Mercedes-Benz Dealer. They should be able to do it at your dealership. You might have to wait a few days for the parts. I looked into this a while ago and the head tech at my dealership knew all about it, including many details about alternative antenna locations (on my E500, the standard MB installation requires you to stick the antenna right in the middle of the trunk deck lid and I am not "comfortable" with that yet). The cost of the entire install with hardware and labor that I was quoted was under $1,000.00. Make sure you have your tech show you where the antenna will go on your ML and that you are OK with the location. I tend to think antennas on SUV body types look OK just about anywhere, but that's just my opinion. Your's might be different ;)

Good luck with your installation.
