I need a replacement for the front driver's side door,my consistent high volume has caused it to rattle, if not blow. But I'll be content to replace it with an aftermarket speaker, only I'll know that it's non-Mercedes.....[8D]Thanks in advance to all replies to my dilemma.
I was looking for that answer on here and no one EVER gives the straight answer! Well, I've visited two local sound shops with my 98 E300 (210 body also). I do not have a Bose system which I was told will make things easier for an upgrade.
I was told by both shops that they recommended a 6 1/2" component set.
There is a guy on www.cardomain.com who installed speakers in his 210 body Benz himself and he was able to put 6 1/2 inch in the front and rear. He has pictures on there. You would probably have to look through there to find it.
If I can find it, I leave the link.
Oh yeah, also, it you like to crank your system, it you really want to be happy, you need to do a revamp and upgrade. Amplifiers will allow you to turn up the volume to your liking without damaging the speakers (I don't know how your ears will fair!) but with quality amplifier, high quality head unit, high quality speakers, you will be a happy driver.
I haven't got my system installed yet but I bought:
Headunit: Alpine CDA-9835 (CD, MP3, WMA)
EQ: Alpine ERA-G320 with flush mount kit(Bought used on Ebay. They don't make it anymore.)
Amps: JL Audio 300/4 for speakers and JL Audio 500/1 for Subwoofer
XM radio: Delphi XM radio will be attached to aux input
Subwoofers: JL Audio Prowedge with 2-12" W3s
I have a system in my 91 300D 2.5 Turbo (124 body) and it beats ANY factory radio.
So if you are an audiophile, build your system from scratch. I can't bear to listen to my factory radio. It sounds like the CD input is TOO loud which equals mass noise and distortion if I turn it up. The bass and treble controls are a joke. I HATE to hear a man singing BEHIND me or a guitar solo in the back of my car. The fader cuts out lows if you fade to the front. Jeez! The person who designed the Benz system knew nothing about music enjoyment! All your main sounds should come from a front stage and the back is only for rear fill. All passengers will still enjoy the music with the correct setup.
If you are on a tight budget, the Alpine 9835 or 9831 has a powerful built-in amp which you could use to power the rear speakers and you could add some components in the front (good components need an amp), but because you do like a loud volume level you really do need at amps for all your speakers. The small 8" subs in the back are really not playing the superlow frequencies. Just go with your own subs in the trunk with their own amp.
You never specified whether your system was Bose or regular.
You can e-mail me if you like for any detailed questions.
I have the stock door speakers from '97 E320. You can have them if you're interested.
