VSS wire & reverse signal E300 '98.

Just fitting a Travelpilot. Pin 1 is already wired (green/black), but install check indicates a "sad face". I believe this pin is normally used for dynamic volume control. Browsed lots of sites and have seen a comment that the signal might not be the correct voltage. I thought it came from the same source and can be used for the nav system (I don't have volume control anyway).

Can anybody shed any light ?

If I do need to tap into the VSS wire elsewhere, am I right that it is black & green, taped up and loose in the right side kick plate ?

Also, could anyone suggest where to pick up the reverse signal. I was hoping to get it from close to the radio slot, but can't find anything - any directions ?

And finally, (really), I routed the GPS antenna cable - carpet/door trim/lower windscreen/to site top of central dash. Against the install instructions. There is a hole in the dash (with removable cover) which is perfect - but how the hell do you get the cable down behind the radio - can find no route.

phew! any help appreciated

RE: VSS wire & reverse signal E300 '98.

Correction, the dynamic volume control (which I do apparently have) works OFF the VSS. It would seem that it should be correct then. I did also read a note in the manual that some signals might not be compatible with the nav unit. Sounds unlikely to me though in the case of a Blaupunkt in a Merc.
