I wonder how streetable they are? I found a C500 for sale last night and I think it was something like 9.5 feet wide and 11 feet tall. But I don't think they are all that big. There are quite a few rear drive road versions out there so all wheel drive can't be that much different.
If I'm not mistaken those were an experimental vehicle by Marmon-Harrington? It's called a Rhino. The wheel design was also used for the 'Harvesters' in the David Lynch film 'Dune'...from the 80's. Ya' I know...a useless piece of info.
It is primarily designed for blowing off snow or trash from military air strips.
Also can be used against crowd during riots, and don't ask me how I know that.
No no no, that's just the reverse gear!! In the early years they had trouble getting a reliable high speed reverse gear in HD trannies. Therefore, why not just use a jet engine!!!!
Bloody hell !!!!!!! Flame thrower on steroids ????
Now we have seen everything !
What were these people drinking ?
I would like to take one these to the Dept of Transport for registration (road use)- just to see the look on thier faces
Cool yes but we are getting off topic a bit. This thread is supposed to be about big impracticable off road capable vehicles we dream of owning, rather than just weird stuff on wheels. I'm good with tracks too.
But then maybe a giant torch is the stuff of someone's long sought after dream. Still it doesn't look very good for 4 wheeling.
I really look forward to seeing any additions to this thread although it has a title and theme I open the thread to see Big Impracticable off road rigs and I think it's a great subject that needs fresh material regularly so keep em coming that is big impractical off road rigs that makes your mind wander into another realm where smoke and engines conquer formidable terrain in the quest to run over anything in your path damn all i did was use coconut milk in the cafe and poof I am a rambling jack sorry no punctuation this early. Check out unusual locomotion reinventing the wheel for some interesting history.
I agree with ALASKAT! This is my favorite thread on this board. I for one wouldn't mind owning any (or all) of the vehicles that have been featured here!
Maybe is a pre early warning accident avoidance device. There is a big "feeler" on the front and if you are about to hit someone or some thing it fires up the afterburner and slows/stops you!! Damn Germans always innovating!!!
I'm adding this too just because it's very cool. 1920 Nash Quad civilian logging truck with 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel brakes and 4 wheel steer. Wouldn't mind having one myself.
While reading thru the tough truck thread , the name Berliet trucks popped up so of course curiosity got the best of me.
Berliet manufactured the largest truck in the world in 1957, the T100 with 600 hp (447 kW) and 700 hp (522 kW) from a Cummins V12 engine.
