Two things that have worked for me: 1. Use any glass cleaner with very,very fine steel wool and clean the entire glass surface. 2. Try any good auto parts store and look for No-Touch Glass Stripper. It's kind of like soft Scrub Cleanser for glass. Wet the surrounding paint and the windshield. Use a small piece of cloth or clean wax pad or sponge. Clean the glass thoroughly. Follow the directions and do it 2 times. This removes any film on the glass that regular glass gleaners can't (Rain-X,car wash foam waxes, road grime,etc). Works very well.
