I have answered the question which it appears is not listed ,
yes the ABS/ESP is all part of the traction control of the car, it should be switched on at all times and stay on if its not then you have a problem which you should be investigated

when on ice with one wheel spinning you will get a gunning sound which is the brakes coming on & off, switch the ESP/ABS off and you will delete the programes from operating which is obviously why your car is doing what it is. normally these systems should be left on all the time

However these system were not put their to corrrect driving errors as I previoulsy said if your loosisng the back end when cornering etc either have a tyre problem or your going to fast for the road conditions.
