310d is approx 100hp, the number gives it away.
308=3.5 tonne, 80bhp
310=3.5 tonne, 100bhp
312=3.5 tonnes, 120bhp

light staying on after startin idicates fault with glow plug system.
normally the glow plugs themselves, and its sods law it will be number 5 right at the back. they tend to seize,, or snap off, so its just as easy to rip head off n use wire brush in a drill to clear carbon from the ends of the plugs.
then ya can can replace another common problem.. the head gasket.
call it preventative maintenance if ya like, cos the gasket WILL go at some point.
the knocking on the front end could be your ball joins wearin, they do go fairly regularly, but they are easy enough to do, so not a major problem.
also i have found the anti roll bar bushes can wear out quick if you use cheap ones, ( like ones found on ebay )
use parts from places like gsf, and all will be well.

hand brake mechanism and the rear brake compensators are exposed to the elements, and they are prone to seizing up. work them free using something like wd40, and then smother them in a good grease. the more grease the better. have a look underneath now n again, and if it looks like the grease is washing off, then smother it again. doing the little things like that keeps on top of the niggles u get, and saves u the ball ache of having to repair stuff.
