One other important thing to do after (and on a regular basis) rebuilding your cylinders. Mercedes recommends "Complex Grease" (part number 001 989 46 51) be applied to all sliding blocks (their words), meaning all locking points that hold the top or related covers down. Unfortunately this grease costs $90 a tub from MB. It's the same grease that is used for the sliding sunroofs. I went to the dealer and because I know them well, they greased all points for free. Believe me when I tell you it makes a huge difference in the operation of the locks. Instantly the noise level of the locking mechanisms was reduced and the locks engaged smooth as silk. They told me that using regular grease will not do the trick and I believe them. The Complex grease is extremely sticky and does not dissipate like normal grease does. Another good reason to have a good relationship with your dealers service department. I do not consider them "stealers" and during the last 29 years of owning Mercedes vehicles, I cannot tell you how many times they (two dealers - Miami and Fort Myers) have helped me because I've made good relationships with the service managers and service writers. Be safe.
