The 1999 car is pre OBD2 requirment, the 2004 is just in, Europe 2004 for diesels .2001 for petrol
Best go to my page 69 and contact the company on that page they are most helpful and may have the answer but I fear you will not get reading from the 1999 car , albeit MB 'Star' diagnostics will still work .
