| Dear Yendor,
i was referred to this site by bazzle and saw his response to your inquiry about the process involved in the retractable top of an slk. I too have a 99 slk 230 kompressor with a top problem and have done considerable research on iot without any definitive help so far. I hope you can shed some light on this; i will be most grateful. My trunk opens all the way and then the process stops (The top is up and won't retract.) I had it diagnosed at MB dealer and they said top sw are faulty and wanted $900.00 to repair. I said no. So here I am, wandering what to do next. IF I release the hydraulic pressure on the pump with the hex wrench, I am fairly certain that I can then unlock the latches with the access port in the roof. So, then what? Do I repressurize the pump to seeif the remaider of the process will operate? It seems to me from studying bazzle's schematic that the opening of the trunk and the unlocking of the roof at the winshield pillar are all part of step 1. So, why would the trunk open and the roof not unlatch if the same switch operates by steps and the trunk does open? I know nothing about electronics and I know that you do and hope you may have some answers. Also, do you think that if I get the top down by using 50/50 method (first half switch, second half manually), that I run the risk that the rear quarter windows won't come up again when I try to bring the top up with the electronics/hydraulics? Any thoughts are appreciated.littleb. |
