| I wouldn't bother banging on it, but it can be very helpful to remove the drain plug and/or the air line from the axle and get some kind of solvent in there to try to loosen it up. Fill it part way, then apply air and drain. If it is dirty, put the fluid in there and let it stay for a while. If it goes away (drains into the diff), give up and tear apart.
