It will take vision, courage and a lot of work to make people WALK to a bus stop, wait, pay a fair and sometimes have to stand or sit next to someone they think is going to rape them. don't ask me how do I know because I always seem to get a seat and have the ones next to me stay empty even if the bus is full, I just don't know why, anyway back to the subject mass transit will need competent management and operation which is not the case in most cities in our country. This means we must look into this as a new science rather than patching. |
That's interesting. The relatively few times that I have traveled on public transportation alone during peak periods when few seats are left, I've noticed that African American women will sit next to me rather than an African American man. I guess I look "safe" somehow.
