| Trans blew up tonight...
Yep! 88 260E (with a complete 88 300E drivetrain) packed it in this evening.
I'd completed 62 miles of a 63 mile trip with no symptoms except for the hard upshifting that's been going on for a few weeks. 2 toddlers asleep in the back and *wham-o* it's all over. Smoke (lots of it), engine temp jumped to 100C, and the engine ran normally but the trans didn't answer.
I had the car on a lift today to install new exhaust and was happy to see that my trans leak repairs of a few months ago had done the job just fine. But now it really doesn't matter, does it?
So where do I get the rebuilt unit? Someone here had posted about buying a Silverstar unit IIRC but they hadn't installed it yet. Looking for some input here before the phone calls start tomorrow. |
