Rim oxidation... oh my!

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to salvage my CLK rims from what I thought to be oxidation where the previous owner had wheel weights attached for balancing.

Got my hands on some Blue Magic, and it did an AWESOME job cleaning them up just with a quick 5 second hand application, but unfortunately did nothing for the unsightly white blotches around the rim.

Is there any other product or method I could use to remove this? The surface is rougher than I originally thought, so I'm thinking some type of abrasive would be in order... looking for a DIY solution, and don't mind a weekend worth of manual labour

Attached are some pics, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!
