Gradual evolution of the S-Class can be detected from the W116 all the way to the W220. Today, Mercedes simply do not resemble Mercedes anymore. They're more American/Japanese than they are German.
Not that I'm a business guru or anything...but I believe that would be because of the economic rule of competition. It'd be nice if Mercedes would realize that we all love them being them, and that they should branch out on their own limbs, instead of following comp.
but hey, I'm not an executive...just a 15 year old kid, I've got no say, and my 5.15 an hour wage means my opinion doesn't matter to MB.

Though, I do plan to attend CCS to become an automotive-designer...so maybe in 10 years I will be able to relieve some of this stress of radical changes in designs...
