Run good?
The 16v had a smooth and steady idle with the traditional crackling upper engine sound reminiscent of the dual camshaft sixes of the 280 motors of that period. The hydraulic tappets of today's motors eliminate that sound. However, upon closer examination, the entire fuel delivery system had to go for correct factory operation. I will post information about the motor's operation once I hear it run.
Fuel rust?
Rust is a poor choice of terms. Rust implies an oxide of a metal but dried and crusted gasoline is not an oxide. The crust permeates the entire system to include the gas cap which was replaced during the grab bag phase of this restoration. It will be entirely gone this week and the car will be prepped for body restoration next. I agree with your assessment.
Spoiler?
The spoiler appears to be made from fiberglass painted with the appropriate formula paint. The curved surfaces weave throughout the spoiler. It will be stripped and repainted to appear new. I have not priced it because if a component is operational, I am not replacing it. |
