Also, it states it an SLK "Special Edition". Did they release this, and if so, what is special about it?

Thanks very much.
I have a Special Edition. It's the last model R170 released and arguably the most refined in terms of sorting our design flaws in earlier models. Differences from earlier models AFAIK
- different style alloy wheels - same size though
- SE badges instead of "Kompressor"
- Nappa leather seats, rollbar trim and doors trim
- Metallic paint
- Brushed aluminium finish console instead of faux carbon fibre
- Post facelift has a different supercharger - no clutch, and MAF reposition nearer throttle body. Adds about 5kw to rated power over earlier models.
- Aluminium finish instrument cluster (dials and knobs)
- Aluminium finish shaver grille instead of black
- Front and rear bumpers and sills are same as post-facelift. Earlier models had rubber finish sills and the two piece bumpers and pie-piece shaped fogs.
- Post facelift models have indicators on side mirrors instead of behind front wheel arches
- Special edition door sells instead of the black rubber knobs that get lost
- white trim on carpet mats
- PSE is also better sorted I believe (haven't looked)
- Has plastic cover over inlet manifold not present in earlier models
- Doesn't have the crash relay present in pre April '98 models.
That's all I think
- Mine also has after market Hella HIDs, but not sure who fitted them - dealer I guess.

Picture of my former 1998 and new SE at trade-in shown below (crappy phone pic, sorry). You can see some of the styling differences.
